PALAU TOP 3 WOMEN CHESS PLAYERS—ALL OLYMPIAD BOUND
Perennial Palau top woman chess player Angelica Parrado, left, will spearhead the Palau Women’s team to 2018 World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia from Sept. 23-Oct. 07 and wishes she will get at least a Woman Candidate Master title this time. In 2014 WCO in Norway, she missed it when her opponent from Burundi didn’t show up. With better preparations this time, a likely title is much in sight at Board 4. CM Bernardo Garcia got his CM title in 2012 WCO at Board 3 because we don’t have reserve player at that time. Baby Edna Mission, middle, and Jennifer Angeles will be much strategically significant at Board 3 and 2 respectively. (Photo by Roberto Hernandez)
1-DAY, 2-HOUR 2018 PALAU BLITZ
CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
on Feb. 18
As per IA, IO Jamie Kenmure’s instruction, the 2018 Palau Blitz Chess Championship will be a one-day event, 9 rounds Swiss system format and time control of 3 minutes for each player to finish the game with an increment of 2 seconds. The previous Palau Blitz Chess Championships had it finished in 2 weeks and time control of 5 min. + 3 seconds increment.
During his Arbiters’ seminar held in May, 2017, this one day and shorter time control was introduced prior to the exam of the seminar with him bagging the championship, Paquito ‘Pax’ Suringa, Jr., 2nd and Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., 3rd and receiving a gift certificate worth $100.00, $75.00 and $50.00 to the top 3 finishers respectively.
In that exam, I topped it followed by Angie Parrado, Tito Cabunagan and Jennifer Angeles to gain one norm of being a FIDE Arbiter. Jamie said that 3 norms are needed to get a FIDE Arbiter title. Being a Chief Arbiter in a National Chess Championship can get a norm but it must be one round-robin and one Swiss system format. The recently concluded 2017 PNCC has all the divisions in round-robin format.
I can get a norm in this Blitz Championship if there are at least 30 rated participants in this 9-round Swiss system event. THE FOLLOWING IS THE LIST OF 60 RATED PALAU PLAYERS INVITED (with their blitz rating, (S) for standard rating and (R) for rapid, Included are the players’ year of birth):
