         TOURNAMENT'S RECORD-                BREAKING 72 Participants

RECORDS are meant to be broken. The 2014 Palau National Chess Championship has the most number of participants among any other chess events in Palau. This time, the 1st Surangel Chess Team Tournament that will fire off this Sunday, Aug. 05 had record-breaking confirmed participants of 72 players (old and new).

                9 teams were formed with each having 8 members—1. Team Captain; 2. Open; 3. Women; 4. Youth; 5. Reserve 1; 6. Reserve 2; 7. Reserve 3; 8. Youth Reserve with each having specific color. Captain Cyril Montel, Jr. had the Royal Blue with Eugene Labarda, Jennifer Angeles, Aome Angeles, Noro Naruo, Carlos Manuel, Jamie Remoket and Alfonso Diagro at Board 1-8 respectively.

                Yellow color was assigned for Team Captain Roberto Hernandez, together with Glen Navarroza, Angelil Sisior, Nicholas Nehez, Morton Sawaichi, Manik Hossain, Spis Gordon and Dims Alexander.

                Teal Color for Team Captain Tito Cabunagan with teammates Neph Macasaet, Joy Whipps, Kyarii Sisior, Nelson Sisior, Gabriell Garcia, Melvin Parinas and Moriama Tucker.

                Captain Dennis Gonzales got the Navy Blue color with teammates Jeffrey Balbalosa, Joan Gemota, Ksau Whipps, Joel Gemota, Lenge Gibbons, Reece Reklai and Ultei Surangel.

                Light Blue for Captain Rustum Cabuso with Manuel Mahor, Jr., Angelica Magno, Destiny Sisior, Michael Gulla, Arnold Undecimo, Margie Magro and Lancy Lazarus.

                Captain Angelo Salvadora got the Dark Grey color with teammates John Malinao, Angelica Parrado, Rommel Gulla, Pedro Parmisano, Albino Taksiau, Lieslie Taksiau and Meruir Ngiramenglor.

                Red Color for Captain Bobot Tan, Jr. with teammates Rafael Paloma, Baby Edna Mission, Gian Claronino, Charley Patris, JR Faminano, Missy Maximo and Seth Paulus.

                Captain Paquito Suringa, Jr. had the Black Color with teammates Danny Guillermo, Gladys Paloma, Gian Paloma, Elizalde Madrinan, John Joseph Pabiona, Eric Whipps and Robert Gordon.

                And lastly, Captain Leif Toribiong got the Purple Color with teammates Chris Kitalong, Tau’o Ngirmeriil, Shem Paulus, Omdasu Ueki, Clarence Kitalong, David Wong and Ethan Naruo.

                This is the 1st Round Pairings on Aug. 5 (First name of Captain to play the white pieces; Board 2 (Black), Board 3 (Women-White), Board 4 (Youth-Black):

Alfonso Diagro will replace Aome while Jennifer might lose his 1st round match vs. Gladys Paloma, who is also on vacation. Her son Gian will be replaced by Robert Gordon.

                Before the start of every round, the Team Captains are requested to submit the final composition of their teams to me. New Palauan players can be fielded only in the junior (Youth) while the Reserve 1, 2 can play only in Board 1, 2.
