(1586) ROUND 7 OF 2018 WCO (Oct. 01, 2018) WCM Title For Angie; PALAU OPEN TEAM SWEPT BY PNG

ROUND 7 OF 2018 WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD
(October 01, 2018)
WOMAN CANDIDATE MASTER
TITLE FOR Angie;
PALAU OPEN TEAM
SWEPT BY PNG

Before the start of the 7th round, Palau FIDE Delegate Eric Ksau Surangel Whipps and his wife Joy Flores Whipps, visited the Palau Chess Teams with camera. It's a well documented photos to record the gaining of Woman Candidate Master title of Angelica Parrado after they almost swept the Sao Tome & Principe team, who's got no ratings among their players.

Joan Gemota easily disposed Elquissandra Da Fonseca Gomez and there is no player at Board 4 that's why Angie suggested to me that she will play on Board 3 because she doesn't like the incident in 2014 WCO in Tromso, Norway to happen again. It doesn't count as a win if your opponent did not show up. Instead, Angelica Magno played at Board 4 and she's got her 2nd default win.

Baby Edna Mission is in a winning position and she asked me that she will offer a draw to her opponent Marcia Gomes, who readily accepted the draw. Mission said she has a headache and can't think properly even with a good position.

With Angie's victory over Patricia Santo Soares, she became the 2nd Candidate Master of Palau and first Woman Candidate Master with the possibility also to become Palau's first Woman FIDE Master if she would win 3 of her last 4 remaining games.

This is Angie's reaction to my post at Facebook about this...

CONGRATULATIONS TO Angie Sisior!!! Palau's 1st Woman Candidate Master after winning her 4th victory in 6 games over Patricia Santo Soares of Sao Tome & Principe in the 7th round of 2018 World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia. She will be aiming this time for a Woman FIDE Master title if she would win 2 of her last 3 games. Palau's 1st Candidate Master Bernard Garcia is not in Palau anymore so this is a very good news for chess in Palau. Cyril Tomas Almitante-Montel still has a slim chance to get a CM title if he would win his last remaining games.Cyril won against Central African Republic in the 8th round and would win a CM title if he would at least draw his 9th rd. game vs. Seychelles on Oct. 3.

Thank you all for the prayers and support! Thank you Robert for the team strategy. Thank you for the Women Team who has to sacrifice just to get this title. This title is not for me but for the entire Women Team to Batumi, .for Palau and for Palau Chess Federation. Thank you Sir Eric and the entire delegation from Palau to this Olympiad. Thank you to my employer and my co-workers who were so understanding every time I have to compete for tournaments. Thank you for the donors. Thanks to my very supportive husband Harvey and my family back home. Thanks also to Principal Abner for allowing my daughter to come with me. This would not have been possible without all of you guys. And most of all thank God for letting this happen. God is good!

In the Open Division, Cyril took over as Open Team Captain as Tito Cabunagan left on Oct. 01, 2018 for job requirement. His vacation was cut in half as he is badly needed in Palau when it suffered a black out (power outage) and he is the only technical person that can handle the situation.

Also, Cyril took a rest on his first day as Team Captain. The Open team was shut out by PNG with Bobot bowing to FM Stuart Fancy (1950), Angelo to Shaun Press (1935), Rustum to CM Helmut Marko (1902) and Leif to the newest member of PNG team Tom McCoy.

On the way home to Hotel Oasis in the bus, I have long conversation with the Head of Delegation of Ethiopia team Mr. Hailu Gizaw Assefa and he is staying at the same hotel as Palau team at Room 3209. I gave him my card and the big brochure of Palau Royal Resort which I have given to all the opponents of Palau women's team, the Team Captains and to the Match Arbiters before the start of every round since Round 3.

We eat dinner and when I notice that there were only 2 members of Palau chess team having dinner, I move to their table and invited Mr. Assefa to our table and we have dined in one table together.
