Only one game was played in the opening day of 2018 Palau National Chess Championship-- it is between Georgia Olympian Angelica Morales Magno, left, and Jennifer Angeles, which resulted in a 21-move conquest of the latter via Qe1 mate.

Other players just practice blitz chess like this one--Tito Cabunagan, left, vs. Mohammad Manik Hossain; Angie Parrado vs. Glen Navarroza. 14 players have confirmed in the Open division with Charley Patris and Glen needing to complete their dues before they will be allowed to participate in the first round on Oct. 28.  Morton Sawaichi is likely to participate, too as well as Eric Ksau Surangel Whipps and maybe his son Ksau.

The newest member of Palau Chess Federation -- Samuel T. Palingcod, who was born on Dec. 23, 1979 and working as Technical Support at WCTC.
