(1584) ROUND 6 OF 2018 WCO (Sept. 30, 2018) -- Palau Women's Team Swept This Time by Lesotho; Open Team Whips Antigua and Barbuda 3-1

TORRE -- NOT PLAYING ANYMORE FOR PHILIPPINES
     For the first time in 3 decades, Asia's first Grandmaster Eugene Torre, left, is not playing at any board for the Philippines Team. He is the Team Captain of the Open Team while GM Jayson Gonzales is the perennial Team Captain of the Women's Team. They are watching the game of GM John Paul Gomez. The Board 1 player of the Philippines, GM Sadorra, is undefeated going to the final (11th) round of the Olympiad. Because I am not allowed to bring the small camera, I just get whatever is available from the website of the organizers. Next time in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in 2020, I will apply for press accreditation so that I can bring the camera inside the playing area.

       ROUND 6 OF 2018 WORLD CHESS
     OLYMPIAD -- PALAU WOMEN'S TEAM
        SWEPT THIS TIME BY LESOTHO;
        OPEN TEAM WHIPS ANTIGUA &
                      BARBUDA 3-1

My strategy for the women's team for Angelica Parrado to gain at least a Woman Candidate Master (WCM) is to rest her in the first round where they are facing a very strong opponent (Ecuador). She will be playing since then and after winning a match convincingly, she will have her 2nd rest.

Seeing her opponent's rating for the 6th round (Lesotho) at 1267, Naleli McPherson, she preferred to play at Board 3 after sweeping Gambia in the previous round No. 5. Joan Gemota at Board 1 rested with Baby Edna Mission bowing to WFM Ngatana Lieketseng (1518).

Angelil Sisior followed suit against Likhomo Malehloa (1174) and Angelica Morales Magno succumbed to WCM Maboloko Leboela (1306).

Our Match Arbiter in the 6th round is IA Gudrat Ismayilov of Azerbaijan while our Round 4 Match Arbiter is another Azerbaijani, Vitaly Sapronov. He is the Rating Officer of Azerbaijan Chess Federation  bay@mail.ru

Mr. Vitaly Sapronov, middle, is inviting all Palau players for an internet tournament that he is organizing. I told him that it is possible now because Palau just acquired a fiber optic cable to make internet in Palau fast, cheap and reliable. since December 2017. I gave him my card, the brochure of Palau Royal Resort where I said to him that, "This is the place/hotel where I play piano."

After losing 3-1 to Togo, Palau Open Team bounced back and dealt Antigua and Barbuda the same whipping (3-1) with only Leif Toribiong lost after failing to convert his advantage vs. Andre Warner, to a whole or half point. Palau will be happy for Leif to score even a single draw, moreover with a single win.

Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. continue to hunt for at least a CM title at Board 1 with a victory over Matthew Bailey (1060); Angelo Salvadora scored his first win after 5 straight losses after touting Jerry Aska and Rustum Cabuso likewise scored his first point with a win over Seymore Smith.
