CHESS TEAM TOURNAMENT
WITH the 8th team now added, the 1st Surangel Chess Team Tournament will fire off on Sunday, Aug. 05, 2018 at the Campaign Headquarter of Surangel Whipps, Jr. Paquito ‘Pax’ Suringa, Jr. was added as team captain to make a total of 8 teams with each having a captain at Board 1, Board 2 (Open), Board 3 (Woman), Board 4 (Junior) and 3 reserves so that if any of the top 2 boards (Open) can’t play, these reserves are ready to fill in the vacant boards.

With the addition of Team Paquito, the round-robin event will have 7 Sundays—Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26 and Sept. 2, 9, 16 where six days later, the 14 members of Palau Chess Team to 2018 World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia will fly from Manila to Istanbul, Turkey and then to Batumi for their participation in that Olympiad.
This first ever team tournament will be like a training practice of the Team Palau where the same time control will be used like the Olympiad time format at least.
