     WILL THERE BE ENOUGH 30
      PLAYERS FOR 2019 PBCC?

The 2019 Palau Blitz Chess Championship was postponed to Jan. 20 as the target of 30 players was not reached. At 4pm on Sun. Jan. 13, there were only 26 players that registered for the one day 2019 PBCC. We decided to postpone it on the next Sun. Jan. 20.

There are 4 new players joining--Paul Tucker (8 yrs), Bernard Hilario, Wakako Sisior and my guitar/chess student Brandon Kyle Soriano. Those who have paid their dues are Bobot Tan, Tito Cabunagan, Rustum CabusoManuel Mahor, Jeff Balbalosa, Cyril Tomas Almitante-MontelMorton SawaichiManik Hossain, Jello Aguaras, Samuel Palingcod, Glen Navarroza (Osman), Jun Cabugao Mintar, Michael Gulla, Rommel Gulla, Angie SisiorKyarii Sisior and the 4 newcomers.

Jhoan Gemota Joel Gemota, Paquito Suringa Jr. and Dennis Gonzales are not available on Jan. 20. Angel Salvador and Neph Macasaet will join as well as Gonzalo Escapatoria, who will come at 3pm. No confirmation yet from Leif Toribiong, Jennifer and Aome Angeles, Jeyrald Lomboy and the reigning junior champion Gian Gabriel Claronino

The players waited and practiced blitz chess. At 4:30 pm, we held at mini blitz tourney among 10 players-- Bobot, Cyril, Sam, Me, Paquito, Glen, Manik, Tito, Jun Mintar and Jeff Balbalosa.

As usual Bobot is leading early. I won over Manik and Jun Mintar but lost 2 straight to Tito and Pax. I won the last 5 including vs. Bobot, Cyril, Jeff, Glen, and Sam to finished 2nd with 7-2 record, same as Cyril but because of Direct Encounter (winner over the other) tiebreak vs. Cyril, I finished 2nd, Cyril-3rd, Jeff-4th, the ever-improving Glen at 5th, Tito-6th, Sam, Jun, Pax and Manik at 7th-10th.

Gonzalo Escapatoria adjusted his work schedule to be able to play this Sun.—from off at 4 pm-3 pm by working an hour earlier and shorter lunch break. Remrel Dizon will also be going out of work at 3 pm so we will wait for them before we start the 1st round. Neph Macasaet, Angelo Salvadora, Reece Reklai andthe Paloma family confirmed their participation leaving this list as the possible contestants after the withdrawal of Tito Cabunagan---
