INCREASE OF 80 IN STANDARD, 65 IN BLITZ

3 TOURNEYS
The long wait is over for the awarding of the winners of the 1st Surangel Chess Team Tournament—Aug. 05—Sept. 16, 2018; the 2018 Palau National Chess Championship—Oct. 21—Dec. 23, 2018; and the recently concluded 2019 Palau Blitz Chess Championship, held in Jan. 27, 2019.
The venue for the awarding is Eric Ksau Surangel Whipps’ residence at Surangel Dock in Malakal to start at 4 pm. As many as 60 players and their guests are expected to come for this occasion.
The recipients of awards in the 1st Surangel Chess Team Tournament are the champion team of Angelo Salvadora (Dark Grey) with 16 match points followed by Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. (Royal Blue) with 13 and Rustum Cabuso (Light Blue)—12 match points. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to them respectively plus gift certificates courtesy of Eric Whipps.
In the 2018 PNCC, gold medal will be awarded to champion Bobot Tan (1871 latest FIDE Rating), silver medal to Cyril (1877-unchanged) and bronze medal to me with 1707 rating (1 point less from previous month). A certificate will be given to Angelica Parrado (1554) for winning the Women’s Division and another certificate for Gian Gabriel Claronino for topping the Junior Division.
A certificate will be awarded to Angelica Magno for gaining 80 rating points, thus the “Biggest Improvement in FIDE Rating List” and certificate, too to Brandon Kyle Soriano for “Top Performing Newcomer” for scoring 4 points in the recently concluded 2019 PBCC, tied from 19th-27th spot with Jojo, Glen, Jello, Destiny, Gian Gabriel, Flavin Andres, Bheng and Gian Paloma and ahead of other newcomers Mary Jane Bojo (3 pts.), Jedidia Marinas (3 pts.), Mary Grace Capili (2 pts.), Wakako Sisior (2 pts.) and Allyza Igharas (0 pt.).
The “Highest Rating for Newcomers” goes to Samuel Palingcod for gaining 1567 initial FIDE Classical rating, for 11th place in the Palau’s top 30 players in the Jan. FIDE rating list. It’s still the same for Feb. as the 2019 PBCC is rated in Blitz category. FIDE has rating for Classical, Rapid and Blitz.

The new FIDE ratings for Blitz of Palau top chess players is now been published since Feb. 01 ass follows: 1. Bobot Tan gained 30 rating points (from 1868-1898) 2. Tito Cabunagan lost 32 from 1777-1745 3. Cyril lost 13 (from 1776-1763) 4. I stayed at 1733 as I didn’t play but being an Arbiter in this event, I have completed the 3rd norm to be a FIDE Arbiter. 5. Rustum Cabuso added 22 to his 1697-1719. 6. Manuel Mahor, Jr. lost 12 rating points from 1658-1646. 7. Dennis Gonzales added 15 points to his 1631-1646 rating. 8. Jeff Balbalosa gained the most rating points of a whooping 76! to climb from 1615-1691.
