(1540) MUSIC AND ME (May 17, 2018) INSTALLMENT TIPS

I have never had an experience of having tips by installment! The Japanese guy here gave me a total of $5.00 tips for requesting 3 American songs at the Breeze Bar of Palau Royal Resort on April 30, 2018.

         TIPS BY INSTALLMENT

I've got a $10.00 tip at Waves Restaurant on the night of April 30, 2018. Then I proceed at Breeze Bar to play another 2 hours of keyboard music.

Two young Japanese ladies came and sit near the keyboard. Later they were joined by their father? and I started to play Japanese songs starting with Yume No Tochu.

THEN THE INSTALLMENT TIPS BEGUN...

The father gave me $3.00 tip to play "Yesterday" by the Beatles. I sang the song as I know it by heart and it's the most recorded songs in the world. Being recorded by different artists/singers around the world by about 2,000 versions!

His next request is "Let it Be", another Beatles song. I sang it as well. He gave me a dollar this time. Then "Imagine" by John Lennon follows without tip. Imagine is very popular among Japanese even though it is sung by John Lennon when the Beatles broke up.

The two ladies sang with me to the songs by Southern All Stars "Tsunami" and "Itoshino Elly".

Then he requested again "Hotel California" by Eagles. I sang it as well with the key lowered by 3 steps to fit my range/key.
He gave me another dollar.

The last song of the ladies is "Nada Sou Sou", a very popular Japanese songs among middle aged generation.

Benny Billones wants to be in the photo also with the Japanese ladies so the last shot was a selfie.

(1484) MUSIC AND ME (Dec. 14, 2017) I'VE GOT $110.00 TIP FROM 4 JAPANESE GUYS ON DEC. 07, 2017

I'VE GOT $110.00 TIP FROM
4 JAPANESE GUYS ON
DEC. 07, 2017

It was a quiet night at Waves Restaurant of Palau Royal Resort on the night of Dec. 07, 2017 with only few guests and I'm not in the mood to play whatever songs I'd like to play because nobody is listening.

Until 4 Japanese guys came and ordered food and drinks. I started to play all Japanese songs. One of them, the guy at the right, come to me and he sing with me the song "Subaru". After the song, he gave me, to my surprise, $100.00 tip! He put it on top of the piano. When he left, I resume playing Japanese songs and put the $100.00 in the pocket of my polo shirt to avoid jealousy among co-employees who will see it.

I come to their table with my Japanese songs songbook and give them my card. I ask them if they would like to request Japanese songs. The guy, 2nd from right, said, "It's Christmas time. Do you know "Happy Christmas?" I said, yes, Happy Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon.

I know the song by heart as it is one of the songs the we played/sang during the PRR Christmas Tree lighting on Dec. 02, 2017 at the lobby of the hotel with 24 staff members of the PRR choir. When I play/sing it, the chorus part of the song were sang by lady staff, making it a harmonious melody by piano instrumental, my singing and the ladies.

After that song, the generous guy added $10.00 tip which I didn't put in my polo pocket so that the staff will see that I've got only $10.00 tip from them and then took 2 photos with the money ($110.00) with them and a lady staff in the background.

When I posted these photos on Facebook, there goes 2 calls from my wife Flor Miranda-Hernandez asking me to give her half of it ($50.00) as she is getting short of cash for food and personal needs. I willingly gave it to her.

(815) MUSIC AND ME (August 28, 2014) JOHNNY B -- FIRST PALAUAN RECORDING ARTIST

JOHNNY B AND HIS AUNTIES AT PRR ON CHRISTMAS DAY
The first Palauan recording artist Johnny B had dinner at Palau Royal Resort's Waves Restaurant on Christmas day, Dec. 25, 2013. Roberto Hernandez, left, didn't let go the opportunity to have a photo with his colleague. At the other long table, Melwert Tmechtul, his wife Lazar, and 3 kids were having dinner also. The kids (Keo, Dirramong and Nirblush were piano students of Roberto in 2005.

                       JOHNNY B
     FIRST PALAUAN RECORDING ARTIST

His first recorded song is entitled "Air Micronesia", referring to the Continental Micronesia Airlines, who monopolized the Palau airspace for quite sometime until recently even with the merging of Continental and United Airlines and now being called "United Airlines".

Johnny B played with Roberto Hernandez at Image Restaurant for a few days.

He recorded one Palauan Christmas song "Belau For Christmas" which was sung the Palau Royal Resort Choir in early December of 2012.

Nobody knows that it will be the last Christmas choir presentation of PRR because Roberto is not working anymore at the Purchasing Department (2pm-5pm).

That last choir presentation was the best ever, with applause from the crowd as they appreciate the combination of "Happy Christmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon, Belau for Christmas by Johnny B, The Twelve Days of Christmas with numbers 1-12 being shown by choir members in front, and Feliz Navidad (with the combination of English and Palauan version).

HERE'S THE LYRICS OF BELAU FOR CHRISTMAS:

                        BELAU FOR CHRISTMAS

I'M COMIN' HOME TO BELAU FOR CHRISTMAS,
FOR THE HOLIDAYS IN THE ISLAND WAYS.

I'M GOIN' HOME TO BELAU FOR CHRISTMAS.
TO MY ISLAND FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

CHORUS:
     WE'LL TAKE A BOAT RIDE
     ROCK ISLAND
     WE WILL HAVE A BARBECUE.
    AND SING PALAUAN SONGS TOGETHER
TILL THE LIGHT OF DAWN COME THROUGH.

(Repeat 1st and 2nd stanza)
AD LIB:
(Repeat Chorus and 2nd stanza)

CODA:   To my island friends and family.

**Note: Belau is the old name of Palau.

During that Christmas 2013, Melwert Tmechtul and his family and Taiwanese friends are there also.

The 3 kids of Melwert (Keo, Dirramong and Nirblush) were piano students of Roberto from 2005-2006.
