NO REGISTRATION FEE -- 2018 P.B.C.C.
AT THE Board Meeting of Palau Chess Federation officials on Feb. 15, 2018, it started at 5:46 pm with a prayer from me at Eric Ksau Whipps residence in Malakal. Everybody is present (Eric, me, Angie Parrado, Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., Rustum Cabuso, Dennis Gonzales and Angelo Salvadora) and the first thing that was tackled is to have a separate Blitz Chess tilt for kids, the realistic number of participants and the movement of the date (from Feb. 18—Feb. 25, 2018) which is not possible because I will be in Saipan from Feb. 22-25 and back to Palau on Feb. 26. The Filipino Community in Palau (TFCP) will hold their election on Feb. 25 with me running as Vice President in A. G. A. Party while Salvadora and Baby Edna Mission are running as Board Members of the other 2 opposing parties. Beside, Jamie Kenmure has already submitted 3 months ago to FIDE that Palau 2018 PBCC will be held on Feb. 18, 2018.
It was decided to waive the $5.00 registration to get as many participants involved. There will be a donation box to accept any amount of donations from participants and from audience. The simplified FIDE Blitz Chess Rules will be announced before the start of the event.
Eric will talk to Stephanie Nakamura, the new Director of Palau Visitors Authority, about using at least 2 huts at Ernguul Park for the event. The biggest one with stage doesn’t have tables. I was tasked to have the inventory of PCF properties (tables, chairs, chess sets and clocks. It was also decided that those who will borrow chess equipment next time will have to pay deposit.
The Chess in School program has a new prospect in Mindzenty High School. Cyril has a conversation with Mr. Raymond about the elective chess there. Hel will be reminded to write a letter to PCF to request chess materials as what Palau Mission Academy in Airai has done in Aug. 2017.
An additional option for venue is one of Palau Community College available room/space. Cold water from a jug will be provided with Rustum taking care of it. Everyone is asks to bring their own water bottle.
The medals will be awarded after the tournament with gold each going to senior champion, women’s best scorer and junior top scorer. Silver and bronze medal to senior’s 2nd and 3rd place respectively. No cash prizes will be given as it is not a good motivation for young and old players alike.
I’ve talked to Jennifer Angeles on Valentine’s Day at Palau Royal Resort. She said 9 players from PMA Chess in Schools will be joining this tilt.
The 2018 Palau Rapid Chess Championship will be held on March 25, April 1, 8 and 15, 2018. A training tournament for Olympiad-bound players will be held together with the Qualifying tournament in July 2018 while to 2018 Palau National Chess Championship will be held after the Olympians have come back from participating in the 2018 World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia. The Top 10 Division will be from Oct. 14-Dec. 02.
