UPDATE ON PALAU CHESS TEAM TO ISTANBUL
AUGUST 26, 2012

AFTER safely arriving in Manila from Palau on August 24, 2012 at 10:30 pm, Roberto Hernandez, Bernardo Garcia and Menandro Manuel parted ways after loading their cellphones with Smart sim cards.

Roberto met Jennifer Yano Sugiyama there who will go to St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig. Her ride didn't arrive so she will take a taxi in going there. So did Roberto, who befriended the taxi driver and he will drop Roberto also in going to Istanbul on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 10 am.

Roberto enjoyed the whole afternoon and night of Saturday, August 25 bonding with his grandson Zach and daughter Karen. He bought a new digital camera (Canon) with 17 megapixels. It's promo price is Php4,498.00 to be used in Istanbul. His old digital camera used in Russia is not good.

The taxi driver (Lito Lobredo) had a death in his family so he didn't dropped Roberto for his flight to Istanbu. Roberto hired a taxi instead at the main road (Juan Aloguin), who is an avid chess fan. Roberto gave him his card and they didn't finished their conversation as airport is just a few miles away.

Bernard and Roberto waited for Menandro and his wife Elizabeth for boarding to Singapore airlines. When they finally boarded the Singapore Airlines at 2:10 pm, Roberto wears the jacket of Palau Chess Team, with Palau word on a yellow circle at the back. The word Robert and Chess Olympiad is written on the left side of the front of the jacket, under a knight (yellow color). On the right side of the jacket is the flag of Palau and the words "Palau Chess Team" and "World Chess Olympiad" under it.

Roberto praises Bernard for the nice jacket and its design worth only Php900.00. You can add the year of the Olympiad so that it may look like that you use the same jacket in that Olympiad, like the Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia Olympiad.Palau's Chess Team Captain Jamie Kenmure and Delegate Jan Berglund also had a jacket and a pair of Palau Pacific Resort polo-shirts courtesy of PPR (the first 4 polo shirts).

While paying airport tax, the lady passenger on Roberto's right mentioned that she is a member of Philippine Chess Team.

The guy who checked Roberto's passport asked, "What will you do in Istanbul, play music?" He said he will represent Palau in Istanbul 2012 World Chess Olympiad. And he's musician in Palau for 20 years. He gave him his card after the questioning.

Palau Chess team finally arrived in Singapore at 6:00 pm. Roberto is using the free internet now at the airport to update Palau Chess Team. It's 7:03 pm now in Singapore. We proceed to the waiting area to have dinner and sleep for a few hours.

We have a 7-hour stop over here at Singapore.

Have dinner at Subway. Roberto had a ham combo sandwich with all the garnishings and a medium light Coke for S$5.00. He paid in US dollars and was given change in Singapore dollars. Bernard had a tuna combo while the Manuel couple had the same as Roberto's.

They sleep for a few hours in the waiting area. Roberto can't sleep because of caffeine in Coke so he reads the Bible. Menandro is snoring.

At 11:50, the team is ready for check-in but Istanbul is not yet listed on the departure board. They waited again in the lounge while Roberto is updating this site.
