PALAU WHIPS BURUNDI 3-1;
CM TITLE OF GARCIA CONFIRMED

ROUND 10 of the 2010 World Chess Olympiad features Palau versus Burundi, who had only 2 players as their board 1, 4, and reserve didn't make it.

Board 1 and 4 were won immediately after their first move by Roberto Hernandez and Menandro Manuel respectively.

They just watched the crucial penultimate round at the bleachers in front of the Philippine team that is facing 27th seed Vietnam, table 1 encounter between USA and China and the Chinese squad defeated the USA quartet 2.5-1.5 on China's victory at Board 3. Hikaru Nakamura and H. Wang drew their match and the board 2 and 4 likewise. China will face defending champion Ukraine in the final round.

After losing her queen in the middle game without compensation, Elizabeth Manuel resigned immediately on team captain's recommendation after Bernardo Garcia clinched the board 3 win for a 3-1 match win for Palau.

Garcia's Candidate Master (CM) was confirmed on the website where it shows only 3 players earned the CM title after scoring 3.5 points in their first 7 games. A total of 75 players earned their CM title as of 10th round. A Filipina, at board 3, earned her FIDE Master title after scoring 6 points in her first 9 games.
