2ND INVITATION TO 2012 CHESS OLYMPIAD

The Turkish Chess Federation, host of 2012 World Chess Olympiad, sent their 2nd invitation to Palau Chess Federation that says: “Dear Chess Friends, Our first invitation to the FIDE Congress and the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, to be held from the 27thof August to the 10th of September, was sent to all federations on May 2nd.

We have just published all the necessary information about the venue and regulations on our temporary (until we get our domain name) website: http://istanbul2012.tsf.org.tr/en/.

I want to remind you that all FIDE member federations, the IBCA (International Braille Chess Association), the ICSC (International Committee of Silent Chess) and the IPCA (International Physically Disabled Chess Association) have the right to participate in the Olympiad.

We kindly ask all federations to write to the email address info@tsf.org.tr requesting a username and password, which you will need in order to register your participation for this year’s Chess Olympiad. Please keep in mind that the deadline for registration is June 10th2012. After that date you may lose your right to participate.

Those countries that have already made that requests, please check the notification list on our web site. If your federation does not appear on that list within a few days, please contact us immediately. We will then update the website when necessary. Best regards. Ali Nihat YAZICI President of Turkish Chess Federation

Through chat at Facebook, Roberto Hernandez and Jamie Kenmure announced the latest developments about Palau Chess Team to the 2012 World Chess Olympiad:

1. Palau Team Captain Jamie Kenmure agreed to be the Head of Delegation for Team Palau and Roberto will be the FIDE Delegate and Board 1 player. There’s no news about Mr. Jan Berglund. Maybe health reasons.

Head of Delegation and FIDE Delegate are given single room accommodation while the rest will have to share (2 persons in one room).

2. Each member of the team will have to pay the organizers 100 euros for accommodation/transportation fees. The FIDE Congress will be held from Sept. 01-10. If the Congress has conflict with Hernandez’ playing schedule, the lower 3 boards will move one up. Even if Menandro Manuel (Board 4) played at Board 3, his score will still be listed at Board 4 as he is listed by team captain at Board 4.

3. Jamie will do the registering of Palau team members to take some burden from Roberto. He suggested that Roberto and the rest of the team members must concentrate in chess practices.

4. Jamie will also list himself and Roberto as journalists as both of them are journalists with Roberto writing for chess and music at Tia Belau newspaper while Jamie has a radio program in Australia. In Russia Olympiad, Roberto didn’t enlist as journalist because Mr. Berglund used Tia Belau in applying as press.

5. If there are not enough women chess players for the women’s team, there might be a change in the line-up of Palau Chess Team in the Open division such as: Jamie–Team Captain and Head of Delegation; Roberto – FIDE Delegate; Board 1- Tito; Board 2 – Bernard; Board 3- Manik; Board 4- Menandro; Reserve – Elizabeth Manuel. In the Open section, women players can play but in the women’s division, men are not allowed. The team captain, however, can be male like the team captain of Australian women’s team in Russia, Leonid Sandler. Judit Polgar also played for Hungary’s Open team. Also in the Papua New Guinea team in Russia, local Lucy Patopo was the reserve player in their Open team but didn’t play a single game. That might happen also to Elizabeth. She will play only if one of the 4 members got sick.

6. Elizabeth is the representative of Palau Chess Team in getting Turkish visa. Palau nationals can get Turkish visa in Philippines even without showing themselves personally to the Embassy’s Consulate officials.

Hernandez has written a letter to Mohammad Manik Hossain’s employer Uchel Tmechtul about Manik being chosen as one of the team member of Palau Chess Team. He is requesting Mr. Uchel to let Manik to have a 3-month vacation after the Istanbul Chess Olympiad which will be held from Aug. 27-Sept. 10, 2012.
