TRAINING TOURNAMENT FOR PALAU CHESS TEAM
May 13 - July 22





THE BLITZ Chess Festival that will follow after the completion 3rd Pax Cup Rapid Chess tournament was cancelled and it will be replaced instead by the Training Tournament for Palau Chess Team to 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey as tune-up games for the team.



The tournament will be held from May 13-July 22 as previously posted in http://palau-chess.blogspot.com
where the time control that will be used is the same as the one being used in the previous World Chess Olympiads–90 minutes in 40 moves, 30 minutes more to finish the game + 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.

It will be held at Beken’s Store just across Sacred Heart Catholic church. The members of the Palau team (Open Division) are: Roberto Angeles Hernandez (Board 1), Tito Tuburan Cabunagan (Board 2), Bernardo Bernaldez Garcia (Board 3), Menandro Lacsamana Manuel (Board 4) and Mohammad Manik Hossain (Reserve). The team captain is the same as Palau’s team captain in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia 2010 Opympiad –Jamie Kenmure, who is also the Rating Officer of Palau Chess Federation.

The tentative members of Palau Women’s Team are: Angie Parrado (Board 1), Karen Lee (Board 2), Ann Acebron (Board 3), Elizabeth Mocas Manuel (Board 4) and Ma Florida Miranda Hernandez as Reserve. Elizabeth is the wife of Menandro while Ma Florida is the wife of Roberto.

Hernandez was able to secure a sponsor for this training tournament. His name is Rommel Baliwag, the new manager of Pacific Car Rental (formerly National Car Rental). He is willing to sponsor a free one day rent of SUV for the champion, Sedan for the 2nd place, $30.00 for 3rd place and $20.00 for 4thplace. The tarpaulin of the company will be displayed at the tournament site every time that there is a game(s) going on.

Registration fee is $10.00 and it will all go to the Palau Chess Team Fund to pay for the PCF 2012 due to FIDE in the sum of 380.00 euros.

Rommel and Pacific Car Rental will always be featured or mentioned in Chessmate column of Hernandez on Tia Belau Newspaper every Monday and on Music and Me column if there is a music connection with Rommel, if he can sing, plays any musical instrument, etc. as a sign of gratitude to him for sponsoring this event.


Menandro already check the cost of airfare from Manila-Istanbul-Manila (round trip) and the cheapest is Saudi Airlines at $841.00 followed by Qatar Airlines at $1,141.00, Philippine Airlines and Turkish Airways offer $1,413.00.


Elizabeth will get in touch with the Turkish Embassy officials in the Philippines to seek help in facilitating the visa approval of all team members. But first, the official invitation from Turkish Chess Federation should be there. Also, if there is no Turkish Embassy in Bangladesh, Manik will have to get his visa in Philippines for more convenience.
