The longest game of the day is between 2nd seed Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., who outlasted top qualifier Allan Alcid in 76 moves of Blumenfeld Gambit wherein Cyril thought for more than 15 minutes in his 36th move. It pays off as he was able to thwart the promotion of Allan a pawn. Their game lasted till 5:45 pm where all games were decided already.
The game between 4th seed Jeff Balbalosa and 7th seed Dennis Gonzales was set up to their agreed date and time while the game of 5th seed CM Bernardo Garcia and 6th seed Paquito Suringa, Jr. was set on the following week day.
Paquito contacted Bernard for their game. Bernard said he will call Paquito which he did not do. Roberto is off on Saturday, Oct. 17 and he played with Paquito at Palau Royal Resort Dormitory 1 at 9pm. Roberto bite the bait of Paquito which almost cost him the game. A queen sacrifice for a rook and a knight ensue which left Roberto with 2 rooks against a queen. Paquito has a draw for the taking by perpetual check but he is ahead by 3 pawns and pushes his luck too much and lost instead after a marathon 70 moves of Sicilian Defence (Pelikan and Svesnikov Variations).             In the Reserves Division, Glen Navarroza, Gonzalo Escapatoria, Jr., Nilo de Jesus and Josef Karlo Moyet won their games over John Mark Tamayo, Arnolfo Inres, Joel Gemota and Eugene Labarda respectively. Newcomer John Malinao and Rafael Paloma drew their game.
There are 12 players in the Reserves Division and if it's Swiss system format, the last 3 rounds must be done manually according to Jamie Kenmure, Palau's Rating Officer and Team Captain in the last 3 World Chess Olympiads (2010 Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, 2012 Istanbul, Turkey and 2014 Tromso, Norway).
The 12 players are 1. Joel Gemota 2. John Malinao 3. Gonzalo Escapatoria, Jr. 4. John Mark Tamayo 5. Josef Karlo Moyet 6. Arnolfo Inres 7. Nilo de Jesus 8. Glen Navarroza 9. Rafael Paloma 10. Eugene Labarda 11. Felix Oling and 12. Rey Sanchez, who won by default over Oling in the first round.
Oling will be having a 4-day annual leave starting Oct. 16-19, 2015 and is expected to lead the field as he did last year when he lost to Escapatoria, Jr. by a mere half point because he didn't finish his last game against Labarda with big material advantage. When they drew their game, that half point cost him the title.
