(594) INTENSE TRAINING FOR THE OLYMPIAD (TBN-Oct. 06-12, 2008)

EVEN with some delays in their visa papers, the Palau Chess Team is on an intense training with themselves and against former champion of Palau.

The players are still preparing their employers certification of letting them go to the 2008 World Chess Olympiad in Dresden, Germany on November 12-25, 2008.

It's one of the paper needed to obtain Schengen visa for Board 1 Menandro Manuel of Surangel and Sons Company, Board 2 Manny Nedic of PTC, Board 3 Roberto Hernandez of Palau Royal Resort, Board 4 Cyril Montel, Jr. of PPR, reserve Gene Pastrana of Jean's Boutique and Dennis Lara of Palau Royal Resort, who will participate in the collateral tournaments parallel to the Olympiad.

2004 Champion Jess Toldoya practices blitz chess with Manuel and Hernandez on October 01 in the afternoon.

Nedic and Pastrana joined the chess practices while Hernandez is sharing with them the email correspondence of Jan Berglund. He is the Swedish International Arbiter (IA)/Coach/Trainer and Delegate of Palau Chess Federation to the Olympiad.

Hernandez also regularly practices with Ivan II Chess Computer, with a rating of 2000 (USCF). Also against a strong chess program from the laptop of Arnel Pama, a former worker at PRR and a participant in the 2008 Palau National Chess Championship.

Hernandez' match against Manuel on Sunday was postponed when the latter didn't show up at 2:30pm.

With the official invitation letter from the 38th Chess Olympiad being given to each player, the certification might be finished in time.
