TITO Cabunagan, Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., Roberto Hernandez and Jose Celiz are now leading the 2013 Palau Blitz Chess Championship after the completion of games on Sunday, June 02 at Bethlehem Park.

Tito now has a 14-5-0 win-loss-draw record while Cyril has 14-6-0, Roberto (13-6-0) and Jose (10-3-1). Nilo de Jesus is in distant 5th at 8-9-1 followed by Dennis Gonzales, who has played 7 games so far at 4-2-1.

Jeff Balbalosa had an almost even day as he scored 4.5 points in 10 games. He split his games with Hernandez, Montel, Jr. and de Jesus. He was swept by Tito and won over Jose once and drew his 2nd game.

Paquito Suringa, Jr. and newcomer John Joseph Fabiola didn’t play a single game and shared the 8th spot with identical 2-6-0 slate, the same score of Remrel Dizon, who was swept by Roberto.

Jose swept Roberto but was swept in return by his nemesis, Tito. Cyril and Dennis swept Roberto and Gene Pastrana respectively.

Newcomer Herbert Galiza, an employee at P. I. E Printing, got his baptism of fire and lost all of his 10 games to frontrunners Tito, Cyril, Roberto, Jose and Nilo. He said to Roberto that he didn’t expect that Palau players are that good. He was informed that Palau players are now participating in Oceania Zonal Chess Championships and World Chess Olympiads.

He replaced the spot of Manuel Mahor, Jr. when his brother Pons confirmed that Manuel (aka Jun) is too busy to participate. The other 4 players who haven’t played a game yet are Gonzalo Escapatoria, Glen Navarosa, Mohammad Manik Hossain and Rafael Paloma.

If they wish to finish the tourney, they must play at least 17 games on the penultimate round on June 09 and another 17 games on final round on June 16.

THE RESULTS OF THE 2013 PALAU RAPID CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP WAS SUBMITTED TO WORLD CHESS FEDERATION (FIDE) BY PALAU’S RATING OFFICER JAMIE KENMURE.
