(222) SIMUL VS. JAMIE KENMURE, ANYONE?

We welcome Mr. Jamie Kenmure in coming to Palau. We hope your stay here will be memorable and fruitful. Thanks for supporting chess in Palau.

     SIMUL VS. JAMIE KENMURE,
                    ANYONE?

PALAU'S TEAM Captain in the 2010 World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia Jamie Kenmure is planning to participate in the 2011 Palau Invitational Chess Championship in June 28-July 05.

He is also the Rating Officer of Palau and has completed the submission of cross-table and results of the recently concluded 2010-2011 Palau National Chess Championship.

In the March edition of new international ratings of FIDE, the names of Jerry Sermeno, Dennis Gonzales, Gonzalo Escapatoria, Mohammad Manik Hossain, Ferdinand Gutierrez, Jeffrey Negrillo, Angie Parrado and Elizalde Madrinan will be published on www.fide.com website.

Mr. Kenmure will keep the position as team captain to the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey and he started saving for that event by donating $180.00 that he was able to refund when 3 members of Palau Chess Team to Russian Olympiad didn't make it. He paid for their airport taxes at $60.00 each.

Before or during the 2011 PICC, he thought of another idea to have some fun and fundraising for the team to Istanbul -- to hold a simultaneous exhibition games against as many players as he can.

He is requesting a $2.00 fee for each participant to be donated to the chess team fund. His FIDE rating is 1812 and this is a good chance for beginners and average-rated players to try playing with somebody that is better to improve their game.

The invited players for the 3rd PICC are Rustum Tolentino (Philippines), Joselito Marcos (Papua New Guinea), National Master (NM) and USA Master Almario Marlon Bernardino, Jr. (Philippines), FIDE Master Christopher Castellano (Philippines) and Gary Bekker (Australia), former President of Oceania Zone.

Australia's 4th Grandmaster (GM) David Smerdon showed interest also in participating but haven't confirm yet due to high cost of airfare.

When Mr. Bekker learned that Pacificflier stopped operating their Palau-Brisbane flights, he withdraws from the event.

The same thing goes to Rustum Tolentino, who doesn't have a sponsor for Manila-Koror roundtrip ticket.

Mr. Kenmure wants to come to Palau earlier to promote chess in Palau and Australia as he always do. He interviewed Roberto Hernandez, Palau's lone representative in the 2009 Oceania Zonal Chess Championship for his radio program in Australia.
