***Roberto is all 'dressed' up for this event -- he's wearing a polo shirt of Knights & Rooks Chess Club (Palau), a watch from 2010 World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia and a checkered shoes which he's wearing only occasionally so that it will last for 2014 World Chess Olympiad in Norway.
41 PARTICIPANTS OF 2013 PNCC
The 2013 Palau National Chess
Championship had started on Aug. 04, with 41 players divided into 4 divisions
–Top 12, the Reserves, Women and Junior.
During the Opening Ceremony at
Bethlehem Park, a total of 7 National Master Titles were awarded to those who
excel in previous national chess competitions. This idea was initiated by
Joselito Marcos of Papua New Guinea, who seems to be not running out of notions
for the improvement of chess in Palau and camaraderie among Palau’s chess
players.
The awardees are Manuel Nedic for
winning the 2006 & 2007 PNCC; Menandro Manuel for winning the 2006, 2008
& 2010 PNCC; Antonio Villa for winning the 2007 PNCC; Roberto Hernandez for
winning the 2007 and 2011 PNCC; Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. for winning the 2009
& 2011 PNCC; Tito Cabunagan for winning the 2011 & 2012 PNCC and
Angelica Parrado as Woman National Master for finishing 3rd in the
2012 PNCC and for being in the Top 10 chess players of Palau in 2012-2013.
The first game of the 2013 PNCC fits junior Destiny Sisior vs. Ronald Mission in which Sisior won in 37 moves of Queen's Pawn Opening. Her mom Angie won over Baby Edna Mission (Ronald's mom) in 27 moves of Center Counter.
Mohammad Manik Hossain lost to Alfredo Pacenos, Jr. in 57 moves of QPO. Dennis Gonzales lost a close one to CM Bernardo Garcia in 37 moves of Queen's Gambit Declined.
Jeff Balbalosa scored a full point over Nilo de Jesus in another 37 moves of Queen's Pawn Opening.
The last game of the day is between 16-year-old Gaury Ken Pastrana vs. Angelil Sisior, the oldest daughter of Angie. Ken clobbered Angelil in 42 moves of Sicilian Defence.
Manik set up a match with Eugene Labarda on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the same venue, Bethlehem Park at 1:00 pm. Roberto Hernandez will set up chess table and materials and will watch them till 2:00 where he will teach a student keyboard (2-3pm).
It was agreed that next Sunday's time schedule to be one hour earlier at 1:00 pm instead of 2pm.

The time control for the Top 12 is 90 minutes
for each player to make 40 moves. An additional 30 minutes to finish the game
with 30 seconds increment that will start from move one.
For the Reserves – 90 minutes
for each player to finish the game with 30 seconds increment starting from move
1.
For Women’s Division –75 minutes
for each player to finish the game with 30 seconds increment starting from move
1.
For Junior (16 years and below)
– 60 minutes for each player to finish the game + 30 seconds increment starting
from move 1.

Registration fee is $10.00 that will be added to
Palau Chess Federation account for payment of Palau’s yearly due to FIDE. The
current amount to be paid is 508.61 euros.
7.
The venue is Bethlehem Park. The alternative
venue is Palau Royal Resort for those players who have only limited hours to
play at Bethlehem Park. Arrangements to play their games there must be agreed
by both players in advance. The player who didn’t show up at agreed date and
time will lose by default.

04- October 06, 2013.

Writing chess moves in mandatory. Score sheets
and chess clocks will be provided by the organizer/arbiters.

This is a FIDE-rated event. Those players
without standard international ratings yet will have a chance to acquire
international ratings after this event that will be published at the start of
every month at www.fide.com
12.
The tournament is organized by Roberto
Hernandez, who will also be acting as Chief Arbiter. The Deputy Arbiters are CM
Bernardo Garcia and Dennis Gonzales. The three are the official National
Arbiters recognized by World Chess Federation (FIDE).
13.
The cross table of this tournament will be sent
to Palau Rating Officer Jamie Kenmure of Australia for submission to FIDE.
14.
The FIDE Laws of Chess will be posted at the
tournament site for referral in case of protest, touch move violation, time
forfeit, illegal moves and other complaints.
15.
Please refer to cross-table for your appropriate
color of pieces before starting your game.
