TRADING PLACES
Mohammad Manik Hossain, left, will be the reserve player of Palau Men's Team to the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey. He refused the team captain of the women's team position which is now assign to 11-year old George Anzawa, middle. Manik requested a practice game with Joselito Marcos, right, which he calls "heaven vs. earth" as Marcos' rating and statute is like heaven to him.                                  (Photo by: Margarita Marcos)

The 3rd chess event for this year is a suggestion of Bernard Garcia—A training tournament for the Palau Chess Teams to Istanbul, Turkey’s 2012 World Chess Olympiad. It will be held from May 13-July 22 and the time control to be used is the same time control that Olympiad is using—90 minutes for the first 40 moves, 30 minutes more to finish the game and 30 seconds increment starting from move 1.

The 4th event is the biennial World Chess Olympiad to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from Aug. 27- Sept. 12, 2012. In the women’s division, it will be spearheaded by George Anzawa.(It's now vacant as George and his mom Adele will be having a vacation in June or July in Hong Kong). Board 1 is Angie Parrado, Board 2 is Elizabeth Manuel, Board 3 is Karen Lee, Board 4 is Ann Acebron and reserve is Ma. Florida Hernandez. The Board 3, 4 and reserve are still  tentative and are available for woman chess players who can afford to buy their own airfare even though they don’t have ratings yet.

The 5th and last event for this year is the 2012 Palau National Chess Championship to be held from Oct. 14- Dec. 09, 2012. Cabunagan, Montel, Jr. and Hernandez will defend their title after emerging co-champions in the exciting 2011 PNCC.
