PALAU VS. BURUNDI-- NORWEGIAN TV INTERVIEW
The crew of Norway National TV interviewed the players from Palau and
Burundi at the 8th round of 2014 WCO. At left is Jamie Kenmure, who
was bullied by a PNG player in round 1. Geoffrey Borg, 2nd from
right, came to Palau twice for chess development and FIDE Trainers Seminar.
Lower board players Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., Dennis Gonzales and Jeff Balbalosa
won their games but top board Roberto Hernandez lost to Yves Ndikumana, whom he
defeated by default in 2012 WCO in Istanbul, Turkey. (Photo by Roberto Hernandez)
**Note: In the actual photo that was published, Jamie Kenmure is not in the photo. They cropped it! It looks like the 'leading man' in this story was killed!
THE INCIDENT ON THE OPENING
DAY OF 2014
WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD
THE PALAU Chess Team (Open and Women) are on their way to
their assigned table with their Team Captain Jamie Kenmure, of Australia, leading
the way. He was the Team Captain of Palau Chess Team for 3 consecutive World
Chess Olympiads (2010 Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, 2012 Istanbul, Turkey and the
recently concluded 2014 WCO in Tromso, Norway.
Almost halfway to the isle,
Roberto Hernandez, Board 1 player of Palau Open Section, saw Jamie talking to
Fancy Stewart (Board 1 player of Papua New Guinea) for a few seconds.
WHAT HAPPEN NEXT IS A PUZZLE AND AN
UNACCEPTABLE GESTURE OF A PLAYER—
Fancy
Stewart grabbed Jamie’s collar with both hands with force. He shouted “DON’T
MESS WITH US” that can be heard yards away. In front of the 4 members of Palau
Chess team (Open) and at least 3 African teams near them.
One of the African team that saw
it is the Nigerian Open Section team where Grandmaster (GM) Richard Bitoon of
the Philippines is supposed to coach for the duration of the Olympiad. He was
offered $2,000.00 for the job but didn’t make it to Norway because of visa
problem. It’s already 2 days before the trip to Norway and still his Schengen
visa is not yet approved.
Destiny Sisior, 2014 WCO
youngest women player, got her visa a day before their trip from Manila-Hong
Kong-Helsinki-Oslo and then Tromso. The signature of her father Harvey Sisior
is the cause of delay. The other 8 members of Palau Chess Team got their visas
within 3 working days after submission of their documents.
Mr.
Stewart dragged Jamie by the collar up to 25 feet to the left before pushing
him and still shouting. Jamie didn’t
retaliate and didn’t fall after the strong push.
If
the tournament site has a CCTV, it will be a ground for ejection/suspension of
Mr. Stewart right from day 1.
Roberto
wrote a letter to support peace and unity to all players without having this
kind of unacceptable behavior from a player.
Only
few people know the real reason for this rude action of player/s -- Candidate
Master Joselito Marcos of Papua New Guinea. Before the 2014 Olympiad, Mr. Marcos
is listed in the FIDE list as PNG official President and Delegate. Only one
player, Mr. Shaun Press, is listed in the list and his place of residence is
Australia.
One
week before the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey, Mr. Marcos
didn’t made it because he got sick and upon the advice of a doctor, he withdrew
from the tournament. Mr. Press even said during that period that he hopes for
his quick recovery. He played a few games as reserve as replacement of Mr.
Marcos.
A
few months before the 2014 Olympiad, Mr. Press made it an issue of including
Mr. Marcos in the team. Mr. Marcos didn’t complain when they played without
relief in 2010 Olympiad in Russia because one of their players didn’t make it
also.
Mr. Marcos added that according to
the rules of PNG Chess Federation, the team’s composition of PNGCF to the
Olympiads must be by-- citizens, resident citizens or resident citizens by
birth or by work or employment. Only 20% of PNG players since 2002 Olympiad in
Bled, Slovenia are residing in PNG.
Mr.
Marcos insisted that he should be in the team. Mr. Press didn’t response and
instead held a bogus election of President of PNGCF, which was not accepted by
FIDE and it affirmed Mr. Marcos as the legitimate Delegate for FIDE election
during the Olympiad in Norway.
Still,
Mr. Press formed a team of unqualified players. Joselito didn’t want to wash
their dirty laundry in public. Instead of forming a team of qualified PNG
citizens, he lets them play as a team. THIS IS WHAT IRKED MR. STEWART – HE
KNOWS THAT THEY WILL BE SENT HOME FOR BEING THE UNQUALIFIED MEMBERS OF PNG
TEAM. Mr. Marcos will then decide whom to vote as President of FIDE.
Mr. Press and company are supporting Gary
Kasparov while Mr. Marcos voted for his candidate, in which nobody knows which
one did he voted. He voted for what is good for PNG chess and not for the good
of few individuals.
He
came to Norway with his own expenses just to prove to them who will be calling
the shots now for PNGCF and that he cannot be manipulated by any other race.
