Angie Parrado, left, scored 4.5 points in her last 7 games in the recently concluded 2010-2011 Palau National Chess Championship. There is a plan to form a woman's chess team to Istanbul, Turkey 2012 World Chess Olympiad. And it is suggested to have her as Board 1. Any other women chess players who are interested to join the team are requested to apply to Roberto Hernandez at Palau Royal Resort.

RAPID CHESS TILT
WITH THE success of 2010-2011 Palau National Chess Championship, another chess event will start from March 06-April 10, 2011 and will commence with the following options:
OPTION 1: There will be Class A and Class B categories. Class A will be composed of Menandro Manuel, Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., Roberto Hernandez, Dennis Gonzales, Tito Cabunagan, Jerry Sermeno, Jojo Escapatoria, Mohammad Manik Hossain and Jun Mahor.
Registration fee is $20.00 and all of it will go to the Palau Chess Team Fund. The champion and the 1st runner-up will receive dinner for 2 certificates and lunch for 2 certificate at Palau Royal Resort respectively.
The time control is 30 minutes for each player to finish the game or 20 minutes + 10 seconds increment whatever the majority will decide.
Class B will be composed of mostly employees of PRR -- Ferdinand 'Bong' Gutierrez, Jeffrey Negrillo, Elizalde Madrinan, Rudel Roxas, Randy Sioson, Rey Alenain, Miguel Gancayco, Ferdie Altea, Joel Gabris, Ronnel Gutierrez, Erick Ventinilla, Joemar Alerta, Albin Yap, Ryan and others who are interested to join.
Angie Parrado and Jeff Balbalosa will be invited in the Class B. Registration fee is $5.00 and all of it will go also to the Palau Chess Team Fund. The prize is the same as Class A. The format is double round-robin.
OPTION 2: No Class A or Class B. The time control for rated players is 20 minutes and 30 minutes for the weaker players. It can be 15-30 depending on what majority will decide.
An idea was suggested by Roberto Hernandez to have some fun and fund: Menandro, Cyril, Roberto and Tito will challenge unrated players to a simultaneous chess (4 or 5 players at the same time).
Each player will pay $1.00 to join. If he wins, he'll get $2.00. If he lost, his $1.00 will be added to the fund of Palau Chess Team to Istanbul, Turkey 2012 World Chess Olympiad.
HERE'S THE FINAL STANDINGS OF 2010-2011 PNCC (The players win-loss-draw records and points): 1. Menandro Manuel (10-2-0) 12 pts. 2. Jerry Sermeno (11-3-0) 11 pts. 3. Roberto Hernandez (11-3-0) 11 pts. 4. Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. (10-3-1) 10.5 pts. 5. Dennis Gonzales (9-3-2) 10 pts. 6. Tito Cabunagan (9-4-1) 9.5 pts. 7. Gonzalo Escapatoria (7-5-2) 8 pts. 8. Mohammad Manik Hossain (7-7-0) 7 pts. 9. Ferdinand Gutierrez (5-8-1) 5.5 pts. 10. Jeffrey Negrillo (5-8-1) 5.5 pts. 11. Angie Parrado (4-91) 4.5 pts. 12. Elizalde Madrinan (2-8-4) 4 pts. 13. Manuel Mahor (2-10-2) 3 pts. 14. Andres Mestizo II (0-10-4) 2 pts. 15. Jeff Balbalosa (1-12-1) 1.5 pts.
The cash prizes for the players who avail of higher registtration fees are: Champion - Menandro Manuel --$80.00; 1st Runner-up --Jerry Sermeno --$65.00; 2nd Runner-up - Roberto Hernandez -- $65.00; 3rd Runner-up --Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. --$50.00; 4th Runner-up --Dennis Gonzales --$40.00; 5th Runner-up-- Tito Cabunagan --$30.00 and 8th place -- Mohammad Manik Hossain --$20.00.
A suggestion from Hernandez to get some fund for Palau Chess Team is as follows: All cash prize winners will donate their cash extras as: Menandro -$30.00; Jerry - $45.00; Roberto -$15.00; Dennis -$20.00 and Manik -$10.00.
Tito was the first one to donate his $30.00 prize and nothing for him. Menandro will keep $60.00 and will donate $20.00. Manik will keep $10.00 and will donate $10.00 and he committed fully to Hernandez that he is definitely going to Istanbul to be a member of Palau Chess Team.
Menandro is interested this time to go to Istanbul even with his wife coming with him. Another suggestion from Hernandez is to form a Palau Women's Chess Team so that others can be accommodated.
Cyril is not fully committed yet because a member needs to save at least $2,000.00 for airfare. It will be hard to get a sponsor because 2012 World Chess Olympiad is not an election year.
Dennis shows interest in coming and being a captain of the women's team is a possibility. Philippine women's team in Russian Chess Olympiad last year had a male team captain.
Everybody will try to convince Angie Parrado to be the Board 1 player of Palau Chess Team if this idea materializes. Menandro has met and played with a lady chess player who is working at Japan Embassy and her strength of play is acceptable to him. Maybe she is interested to join.
Menandro's wife can be included in the team even if she is not good enough but she has been to Palau many times as tourist and that will make her eligible to be a part of women's team.
