When Roberto Hernandez was able to learn that small digital camera is allowed, he was able to get a photo of USA
top player Fabiano Caruana, left, and USA No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura,
seated, who spearheaded their country's juggernaut and drew with top
seed Russia in the 8th round of 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku,
Azerbaijan.

ONLY IN THE 8th ROUND OF
BAKU, AZERBAIJAN CHESS
OLYMPIAD THAT ROBERTO WAS
ABLE TO TAKE PHOTOS
USA WHIPPED the 9th seed Indian team with a 3.5-.5 trumping in the 7th round, and then USA drew with top seed Russia in the resumption of action in the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan.
It's only in the 8th round that Palau chess pioneer Roberto Hernandez was able to learn that small cameras are allowed inside the playing area.
Before the start of the 8th round, he noticed that he didn't surrender the small camera in his belt bag. He went to the area where cell phones, watches and pens are surrendered for anti-cheating purposes to surrender that camera. To his surprise, the Azerbaijani lady volunteer said that it is allowed.
We don't have any photos from Round 1-7 because we thought that cameras are not allowed inside the playing area. They don't allow the big cameras and only official photographers are allowed to take photos. That's why in one of his comments, he said, "This is the most boring Olympiad in as far as taking photos is concerned."
Sergey Karjakin, the contender to the world chess championship against defending champ Magnus Carlsen in the USA for the first time, drew at board 1 with Fabiano Caruana while on Board 2, former world champion Vladimir Kramnik also drew with Hikaru Nakamura. The turning point is the 3rd board pairing of Wesley So and Ian Nepomniachtchi, wherein So prevailed to put the load on Ray Robson at board 4. Eventually, Robson lost for a 2-2 draw.
