118th PHIL. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATED IN PALAU
Eric Ksau Surangel Whipps, left, the Honorary Consul of Philippines in Palau, celebrated the 118th Philippine Independence Day at Ngarmayong Cultural Center with teammate in the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan Roberto Hernandez, 2nd from left, and teammate in 2014 WCO in Tromso, Norway Baby Edna Mission, who is the emcee of the event together with a Board of Director candidate in the TFCP election held in Feb. 2016. ROUND 3
OF WORLD CHESS OLYMPIAD
in Baku, Azerbaijan
3rd Sweep of Palau vs. Hong Kong
When a GM from Georgia was caught cheating in the Dubai Open, the anti-cheating commission of FIDE has become very strict in implementing the new rules to avert future cheating.
One of them is -- you can't leave the playing area or go to the rest room if it's your turn to move.
That happens to Jeffrey Balbalosa, Board 3 player of Palau Chess Team, against Hong Kong. While waiting for his opponent Daniel King-wai Lam, he is about to go to rest room. Daniel made a move and calls the attention of the Arbiter, who called Jeffrey to come back and make a move before going to rest room.
It was the 3rd sweep of Palau team, who lost vs. ICCD (International Chess Committee for the Deaf) via 4-0 sweep with Board 1 and first timer in Olympiad Paquito Suringa, Jr., losing to GM Gruenfeld of Israel, and in Round 2 vs. Barbados via the same score.
