MANUEL, CABUNAGAN COUPLES
TO 2014 NORWAY WORLD
CHESS OLYMPIAD
THE PALAU Women’s Team to 2014 World Chess Olympiad is now intact with the addition of Lilibeth Cabunagan, the wife of 2012 PNCC champion Tito, after she finally made up her mind and joined the opening round of 2013 Rapid Chess Tournament held on Sunday, Feb. 24 at their residence.
With this development, there are now 2 husband and wife members of Palau Chess Team to Tromso, Norway – Menandro Manuel and his wife Elizabeth, who participated as Board 2 and 4 in the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey respectively and Tito and Lilibeth Cabunagan.
During the 2012 WCO, the junior WCO was also held parallel to it. If the Norway organizers will do the same, Ksau Anthony Whipps, his cousin Zachary Techall Whipps, sisters Angelil and Destiny Sisior together with George Anzawa and Cyrelle Ann Montel, are eligible to come to 2014 World Chess Olympiad to be held on August 01-14, 2014, just a week after school starts.
If this will happen, Palau will have a total of 27 representatives – maybe the biggest contingent among more than 150 FIDE-member countries.
The following is the possible composition of Palau Chess Team to 2014 WCO in Tromso, Norway:
1. Head of Delegation –Roberto Hernandez 2. Delegate – Jan Berglund 3. Men’s Team Captain – Jamie Kenmure 4. Women’s Team Captain – Jeff Balbalosa 5. Men’s Board 1 – Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. 6. Men’s Board 2 – Menandro Manuel 7. Men’s Board 3—CM Bernardo Garcia 8. Men’s Board 4 –Tito Cabunagan 9. Men’s Board 5 (Reserve)—Mohammad Manik Hossain 10. Women’s Board 1—Angie Parrado 11. Women’s Board 2—Baby Edna Mission 12. Women’s Board 3—Lilibeth Cabunagan 13. Women’s Board 4—Elizabeth Manuel 14. Women’s Reserve – Paz Ngiratechekii 15. Team Captain (Juniors)—Joy Flores-Whipps 16. Player 1—Ksau Anthony Whipps 17. Player 2—Destiny Sisior 18. Player 3—Angelil Sisior 19. Player 4—Zachery Techall Whipps 20. Player 5—George Anzawa 21. Player 6—Cyrelle Ann Montel 22. Head of Delegation (Juniors)—Eric Ksau Whipps 23. Reserve 1 (Women’s Team)—Mary Frances Lopez 24. Reserve 2 (Women’s Team)—Leizl Michael 25. Reserve 3 (Women’s Team)—Adele Anzawa 26. Reserve (Men’s Team)—Paquito Suringa, Jr. 27. Reserve (Head of Delegation)—Sen. Mlib Tmechtul.
*Note: Because junior players need adult supervision, Adele might come for George but her accommodation might be shouldered by her in case there is no appropriate position that might justify her inclusion.
The Men’s, Women’s, Head of Delegation reserves are open for immediate replacements in case some enlisted players withdrew.
RESULTS OF THE OPENING ROUND OF 2013 RAPID CHESS TOURNAMENT:
Baby Edna Mission mated Paz Ngiratechekii in less than 10 moves. She scored her 2nd victory by trouncing neophyte Lilibeth Cabunagan, who drew her game against Ngiratechekii.
In Group A, Miguel Hilario, Jr. outwitted the returning player Glen Navarosa, who also lost to Roberto Hernandez, when he lost his queen early in their Danish Gambit clash.
In Group B, Mohammad Manik Hossain scored 2 straight wins before bowing to Tito in his 3rd game of the day. He defeated the 2 new players Eugene Labarda and Remrel Dizon, who both paid their registration and membership fee of $20.00.
Non-members are charged $20.00; members--$10.00 and juniors--$5.00 (half price).
In other results of Group B encounters, Dennis Gonzales nipped Jose Celiz while Tito took the measure of Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. when the latter blundered away his queen.
George Anzawa was dropped by his dad Takao at the tournament site. No junior players arrived and George just enjoyed watching adult games and many photo sessions.
THANKS TO TITO CABUNAGAN FOR SNACKS AND REFRESHMENT TO PLAYERS!!!
