THE KNIGHTS and Rooks Chess Club will hold their Christmas Party and blitz chess festival for rated and unrated players on December 24 at Jean's Boutique and Store premises.
Players are requested to bring in one dish each for food with the club's chairman Roberto Hernandez to bring in tilapia fish.
Palau's top player National Master Menandro 'Boy' Manuel will bring in bangus (milkfish). No. 2 Jose Omega, fresh fruits; No. 3 Cyril Montel, Jr., lumpiang shanghai (spring roll); NM Manny Nedic, suman, rice and fish; and venue host Gene Pastrana, pancit (fried noodles) and bread roll.
Participants for unrated division will have to pay $5.00 as registration fee. Half of it will be spent on drinks and the other half will be the champion's purse.
The same format will be used in the rated division. The time control for unrated division is 15 minutes for each player to finish the game while the rated will be only 10 minutes.
A total of $370.00 were given to the winners of the just concluded 2006 Rapid Chess tournament after the last 3 unfinished games were played with Montel, Jr. winning his first game against Edwin Eti and losing the second to finalize the standings.
Manuel and Tony Villa shared the 1st and 2nd prize pot of $175.00.
Omega got the 3rd place and received $50.00. With the win over Montel, Jr. in his last game, Eti edged Hernandez for 4th and got $40.00.
Nedic and Hernandez split the 5th and 6th spot of $55.00 while Montel, Jr. settled for 7th spot for $20.00.
Pastrana got $15.00 and Koror State Legal Counsel Craig Dittrich won the Most Improved Player award and will get $10.00.
Palauan bet Flavin 'Matlab' Andres will receive $5.00.
A total of $250.00 of the total cash prizes were donation from Manny Kimpo of Pinoy Express Remittance.
The other cash prizes were taken from registration fee of players and $50.00 from Eti.
Val Vidar, the 1st runner-up in the Ambassador Cup Rapid Chess tournament in the unrated division, will join the unrated division of Christmas blitz chess festival.
