THE FIRST chess tournament of the year will start on January 21 as decided by officers and members of Knights and Rooks Chess Club to be held every Sunday at Jean's Boutique and Store premises.
Rated players will have their own double round-robin division with the champion getting a chance to represent Palau in the Oceania Zonal Chess Championship in Fiji in May 2007.
Unrated players, newcomers, beginners, inactive and juniors will have their chances in their own double round-robin with time control of 90 minutes for each player to finish the game with 20 seconds increment per move.
This time control is the same as the one to be used in Fiji. The champion in this division will join the rated champion in representing Palau.
If the two champions can't get sponsors for their airfare/accomodations to Fiji, the next finishers who have the financial capacity can be sent in.
