      ALII ! HELLO BAKU, SULANG

DURING a meeting of the 6 members of Palau Chess Team to 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan on Sept. 01-14, a 13-second video was shot and sent to the organizers with the Team Palau saying, “Alii! Hello Baku, we are Palau Chess Team! I’m Pax, I’m Allan, I’m Robert, I’m Eric, I’m Dennis, I’m Jeff. Sulang!” It was shot at the terrace of the Delegate of the team Eric Ksau Whipps’ residence overlooking the rock islands,  with Roberto Hernandez (Team Captain, Player and Counselor), Paquito Suringa, Jr., Dennis Gonzales, Jeffrey Balbalosa and Allan Alcid as players.
The new and varying itinerary of the team was tackled in the meeting with the new route from Manila. Instead of Manila-Dubai-Moscow-Baku and back through China, Eric found a cheaper route of Manila-Bangkok-Istanbul-Baku for $1,059.90 each instead of $1,363.00.
Jeff will leave for Manila on Aug. 19 (Friday) while Dennis will leave on Aug. 23 (Tuesday). Roberto, Paquito and Allan are leaving on Aug. 26 and will stay in Philippines for 5 days before traveling together with Eric, Jeff, Dennis and Tolitz in less than 21-hour trip to Baku.
They will arrive in Baku at 12:10 p.m., just in time for a little rest and preparation for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympiad at 8pm. Eric will go back to Manila on Sept. 08 to attend a wedding. The rest of the team will leave on Sept. 14 in the evening for the trip back to Manila.
Roberto, Paquito, Jeff and Dennis will be back to Palau via United Airlines on Sept. 16 while Allan will stay for a week before coming back to Palau on Sept. 23.
The Koror-Manila airfare is $595.83 + $6.99 for a total of $1,662.72 in which 60% of all the expenses of the Palau participants will be shouldered by Palau Chess Federation.
