2 PCF TOP CHESS PLAYERS
RUNNING FOR OFFICE (TFCP)
PALAU Chess Federation’s current No. 2 chess player
Roberto Hernandez and No. 18 Baby Edna “Bheng” Mission are running for Vice
President and Board Member respectively in the election of new officers of The
Filipino Community in Palau (TFCP) to be held on Feb. 28 (Sunday) at Father
Felix Yaoch Gym, just across the Mindzenty Auditorium, from 7am to 3pm.
They
are both in the same party (Kalinga ng Kapatiran para sa Kaunlaran), where Max
Joseph Asido, the incumbent Vice President is now running as President. Both
Asido and Hernandez ran for Auditor in the 2004 TFCP Election, where Hernandez
won with the 2nd Auditor, Jun, the Accountant of Mindzenty High
School.
Before
accepting the offer to run for whatever position, Hernandez usually inform them
that he cannot attend their meetings if it’s night time because he works all
his life as musician during night time. There are 2 Vice Presidential
candidates in Asido’s ticket. He is Bonifacio ‘Nonoy’ Arganda, who is also an
incumbent Board Member like Roberto.
In
the Feb. 06-13, 2004 Edition of Chess Mate by Roberto Hernandez, here are some
footnotes about the same “2 Players Running For Office”:
ONLY 4
games were completed in the 4th round of the 2004 Non-master Chess tournament
held on Sunday, Feb. 01, at Paul Brothers Tri-M General Merchandise and Food
Retail in Malakal. The 5th game between Jess Toldoya and Jose Omega, who has
to work at 5pm, was adjourned. Their game's position was recorded and Toldoya
wrote his sealed move to be opened next Sunday for the resumption of their
game.
This is
the first adjourned game of the tournament. Omega has a previous adjourned game
against Ivan II Chess Computer on October 17, 2003. Toldoya is running for one of the 15 Board of
Directors seats in the February 08 election of The Filipino Community in Palau
under the United Regional Party while Roberto Hernandez is running for Auditor.
The
K. K. K. candidate for Auditor for this year’s election is Richard Aring of
Airai Water Paradise while the 2 Business Managers are the incumbent Jovita
‘Baby’ Martin of Koror State and Joseph Verano of WCTC. The P. R. O. is Agustin
Ragot of K. E. Company. The Sergeant-at-Arms position is already won by Giovanni
Avila as there is no other person running for that post.
The
14 Board of Directors candidates are incumbent Lorna Asido (Max’s wife) of P.
E. C. I., Lita ‘Adachi’ Campingco and Robert ‘Obet’ Aguilar, Joy Canete Biantam
of WCTC, John Rey Collado of Belau National Hospital, Dennis Jumawid and Jerry Layones of Computer
Plus, Rhea Malonzo of PRA, “Bheng” Edna Mission of Ngarchelong State, Ligaya
“Gay-Gay” Sara Osias of PCC, Lilibeth Pulido of Rdiall Delta, Lizel Rodriguez
of MCS, Benia Secaya of Belau Modekngei School and Jose Rodriguez T. Senase of
PRA/Island Times, who is also listed in PCF inactive chess player. He is also a
former reporter at Tia Belau but transferred to Island Times a few years ago,
to fill in the slot left by Peter Erick Magbanua, another inactive chess player
listed at www.fide.com.
There
was a meeting of all candidates at Osiaol last Sunday, Jan. 31 headed by
COMELEC Chairman Issa to tackle the issues of poll watchers, voters valid ID
such as passport, work permit, driver’s license showing the person’s
nationality. Even tourists can vote as long as they have passports. No
campaigning during the day of election.
At
the end of the meeting, the candidates were introduced to the COMELEC selected
staff. First to introduce their candidates is Lourdes Funa, who is running as
President. She is an incumbent Board Member. The 2nd is KKK of Max
with the most number of candidates and lastly is incumbent Aga David, who has
only 6 candidates in his ticket. A total of 46 candidates will contest the 25
seats.
