(1127) PAX DEALT CYRIL HIS FIRST LOSS (TBN-Nov. 30, 2015)

FIRST LOSS OF CYRIL IN 2015 PNCC
Paquito ‘Pax’ Suringa, Jr., middle, of Palau Royal Resort, swept PPR players Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr., left, and CM Bernardo Garcia at PRR Dorm 1 on 2 consecutive weeks. Is it home-court advantage? Earlier in the 2015 PNCC, the 2 PRR players swept Roberto Hernandez, right, in return. The event will conclude on Dec. 06.

PAX DEALT CYRIL HIS FIRST LOSS

In another special game held at Palau Royal Resort Dormitory 1 on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, 6th seed Paquito ‘Pax’ Suringa, Jr., the Chief Cook at PRR Cafeteria, dealt 2nd seed Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. his first loss in the 6th round of 2015 Palau National Chess Championship.

Cyril set their match on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) in the morning but Pax will be off duty at 6pm and will be available any day starting at 6pm. No response from Cyril for 2 days until he informed NM, FI and top seed Roberto Hernandez that he will play Pax at 6 pm on Sat.
Their Nimzo-Indian Defence (Leningrad Variation) game went by the book until they exchanged all of their minor pieces (bishops and knights) on the 17th move. Both players didn’t castle after those exchanges. Cyril blundered away his queen for a rook on the 21st move and since then, it’s all clinical for Pax to force Cyril’s resignation on the 33rd move.

In the 7th round action held at Bethlehem Park on Nov. 22 (Sunday), Jeff Balbalosa’s bid to become the next National Master of Palau was stalled by Angelo Salvadora when the latter upset him in 43 moves of French Defence (Exchange Variation). Jeff blundered away a bishop on the 15th move and lost his queen for a rook and a bishop on the 41st move. He is about to lose another rook when he resigned facing more material losses. It was the 9th and final game of Salvadora, who finished his first National Championship participation with 6 losses and 3 wins slate.             Meanwhile, Hernandez played his last game also against 7th seed Dennis Gonzales. They moved their table to the front bai when it started to rain. On the 37th move, Hernandez sacrificed his rook for a knight with the idea of winning back the rook with a check on g2. While Dennis is thinking, Roberto’s former employer for 13 years Margarita Borja Dalton arrived at the site. He hasn’t seen her for more than a year and they exchange some warm greetings and hugs. Roberto took her new cell phone and house numbers for future conversation especially about Roberto’s un-posted Social Security payment from 1998-2004.
After Dennis accepted the sacrificed rook, the moves Qg2+ Ke3 and Qxa2 occurred twice (on the 38th and 44th move) which is quite amazing. Facing the loss of his queen, Dennis resigned on the 50th move and thus Roberto also finished all his games with 3 wins, 5 losses and a draw. THE MOVES:

Felix Oling, Jr. continued his dominance in the Reserves Division with another masterful conquest of Gonzalo Escapatoria, Jr. in 39 moves of Modern Defence. Rafael Paloma is trailing by a point after winning over Arnolfo Inres.
