(1087) ALCID, SALVADORA, MAHOR, JR. MADE IT TO TOP 10

ALLAN ALCID'S PERFECT 3RD WEEK OF TOP 3 QUALIFYING CHESS TOURNEY.
Trailing by just half point to leader Angelo Salvadora, 3rd from left, Allan Alcid, left, scored a perfect 3 out of 3 final games in the final day of 2015 Top 3 Qualifying chess tournament to determine the No. 8, 9 and 10th spot  of Palau's top 10 chess players.

Sofronio Mahor, right, vs. John Mark Tamayo.

Nilo de Jesus, left, has to be informed of his game vs. Angie Parrado while he is watching basketball game at Palau National Gymnasium. At right is Glen Navarroza against Josef Karlo Moyet.

7th round crucial game for both Arnolfo Inres, right, and Angelo Salvadora, resulted in the poor last rounds performance for Inres that cause him the slot to be in the Top 10.

John Mark Tamayo, left, vs. Sofronia Mahor with 2 ladies at the background. The one at right is Joan Gemota, 3rd placer in the Unrated Chess Tournament 2 months ago.

After losing to Nilo de Jesus in the 7th round, Angie Parrado, right, suffered another setback to Moyet. The same fate with Inres, who lost his 2nd game to Tamayo. De Jesus is on a roll and defeated the leader Salvadora while Alcid clobbered Sofronio 'Pons' Mahor for his 2nd straight win likewise.

Manuel 'Jun' Mahor, Jr. left, derailed Glen Navarroza's bid to be in the Top 10 with a win after his 7th round loss to Alcid.

Tamayo, left, dealt Inres his 2nd loss that virtually knocked out Inres of contention to be included in the Top 10 list. The skidding Inres, right, lost all his 7th, 8th and 9th games.

Moyet, left, did a good job in the last 3 rounds by defeating Navarroza and Parrado, middle, but lost to Mahor, Jr. in the last round to finished 5th. The victory of Mahor, Jr. paved the way for the exciting 9th round match of Mahor, Jr. vs. Salvadora, that whoever wins, the 2nd place is in place for the taking.

The run for another perfect day for Salvadora, 4th from right, was snapped by Nilo de Jesus, 2nd from right, whose 3-game winning streak was snapped on the other side by Alcid in the final (9th) round.

The perfect 3-game sweep of the final day by Alcid, left, gave him the title.

FINAL ROUND HAVE ONLY 4 GAMES AS THERE IS CONFUSION WITH THE LATE ENTRY BY NILO DE JESUS AND MAHOR, JR.:
At Board 1, Mahor, Jr. vs. Moyet, 2. Alcid vs. De Jesus 3. Inres vs. Mahor, S and 4. Tamayo vs. Parrado.

The Salvadora vs. Mahor, Jr. and Navarroza vs. Tamayo's games have to wait.

THE EXCITING EXTRA 2 GAMES WERE PLAYED BETWEEN SALVADORA AND MAHOR, JR. (BOTH WITH 5 POINTS APIECE) AND NAVARROZA VS. TAMAYO.

Since Navarroza lost both to Salvadora and Mahor, he cannot win in the tiebreak (Direct Encounter or Winner-Over-The-Other) against the 2 even if he would win his game against Tamayo. Knowing the situation, Glen played lackluster and lost to give away an important win for Tamayo, who finished 6th.

Moyet and Pons Mahor both finished with 4.5 points each but the tiebreak goes to Mahor as he defeated Moyet in the 2nd round.

FINAL STANDINGS AND THEIR WIN-LOSS-DRAW RECORD:

1. Allan Alcid (7-2-0) 2. Angelo Salvadora (6-3-0) 3. Manuel Mahor, Jr. (5-4-0) 4. Sofronio Mahor (4-4-1) 5. Josef Karlo Moyet (4-4-1) 6. John Mark Tamayo (4-4-1) 7. Glen Navarroza (4-5-0) 8. Arnolfo Inres (3-5-1) 9. Nilo de Jesus (3-6-0) 10. Angelica Parrado (2-5-2).

AWARDING OF CASH PRIZES AND MEDALS FOR THE TOP 3 FINISHERS WILL BE HELD ON OCT. 04, 2015 AT BETHLEHEM PARK.

The format of the 2015 Palau National Chess Championship will be discussed during the awarding. Jeff Balbalosa and Tito Cabunagan will be back from participating in the 2015 Datu Arthur Tan Malaysian Open (DATMO) with Jeff bringing in the medals for the Top 3 Qualifying Chess Tourney.
