(1225) Rest Day of 2009 OZCC-BBQ Night, GM Jones Simul, Bltiz Chess Fest (TBN-July 06-12, 2009)

A DIFFERENT SIMUL BY GM GAWAIN JONES
     Most simul games by very good chess players have them having all the white pieces. GM Gawain Jones of England is different during the rest day of 2009 Oceania Zonal Chess Championship as he lets those who prefer to have the white pieces against him. Nonetheless, he defeated all 16 players including Palau's lone representative Roberto Hernandez.

    REST DAY OF 2009 OCEANIA ZONAL  
    CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP -- BBQ Night,
          GM Gawain Jones Simul and
                     Blitz Chess Fest

AFTER a strenuous 5 rounds of 2009 Oceania Zonal Chess Championship, all participants are invited to the chess club owned by one of the organizers Graeme Gardiner for a barbecue night, a simultaneous exhibition by England's GM Gawain Jones and Blitz Chess Fest for those who will not participate in the simul.

A meeting was held earlier in the afternoon for the top officials of Oceania Zone headed by FIDE General Secretary Ignatius Leong.

Buses took the participants to the chess club. Palau lone rep Roberto Hernandez and Papua New Guinea's top player Joselito Marcos took some shots while inside the bus.

At the BBQ night, Roberto had a more casual conversation with fellow Filipinos --Fil-Oz couple Raymond and Nancy Lapitan, Solomon Islands lone rep Fernando Aguilar and Marcos. 

It's cold in Australia during summer and Roberto has some 'smoke' coming from his mouth when he speaks. There is also some photo session with GM Zhao Yuan.

BEFORE THE SIMUL BY GM JONES:

During the first minute of the Blitz Chess Fest, the sound of clocks being press is like a 'machine gun' but music to the ears of avid blitz chess afficionados.
