3 JAPANESE LADIES -- HAVEN'T DECIDED YET TO EAT ALA CARTE OR BUFFET

When they arrive at Waves Restaurant of Palau Royal Resort on the eve of Sept. 06, 2017, they haven't decided yet if they will have dinner by ala carte or buffet.

A little push or convincing by F & B Manager Mervin Lee Cuyugan and they all have decided to have buffet dinner.

When they are starting to have their dinner, I played all Japanese songs. I can feel/sense that they like music as they are singing softly or humming while I am playing those Japanese songs.

After paying their bill, they stand near me and watch me play. When I play songs

 sung by lady singers like Nada Sou Sou, they are singing with it.

When I played the most popular Japanese song among middle-aged Japanese women--Oribia o Kikinagara, they sang a little louder and they know the lyrics!.

 I followed it up with Madonna Tachi No Lullaby and Anata. When I played the Kawa No Nagareno Yoni, they are very impressed with the quick strikes of the piano keys especially before the chorus part of the song.

And also the instrumental part of the Japanese song "For You" where I played 4 keys of the piano all at the same time for a "blowing or string" effect. 

After their dinner, and before going out of the restaurant, they thank me and ask a staff of PRR to take photos with us at the piano. 

ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T GOT ANY TIPS FROM THEM, IT'S OKAY FOR ME. THE IMPORTANT THING IS... THEY ENJOY THE NIGHT AT WAVES RESTAURANT WITH MY MUSIC.

Ten days later, Sept. 16, 2017, I have a Japanese couple enjoying my music at the Breeze Bar of PRR. I gave them my 2 song books (1 American songs, and the other is all Japanese songs).

They have sung more than 8 songs already when another 2 Japanese ladies came and upon telling them that they are having a good time singing, they sit at the same table. The staff has to add another 2 tables as if they will be ordering food.

The notebook with the picture of my wife and me during the Feb. 21, 2009 brunch buffet at Palau Pacific Resort is my index notebook of all the songs that I can play (about 2,000 songs). It is color-coded notebook where I wrote blue for blue notebook with a code (B) and next to it is the page of the song. Red for the red (R) notebook where the last few pages are 67 of The Beatles songs. Dark Blue (DB) for dark blue notebook, where the last few pages were international songs. Green for green notebook, The last few pages of this notebook are all Palauan songs. Violet for violet notebook (still not completed yet) and 1 separate notebook for OPM (Original Pilipino Music) where I have handwritten less than 300 songs. At the index notebook, I wrote the titles of OPM songs with a red ball pen and no color coding for it but the page referral has OPM before the page of the song.


They enjoyed the next hour of singing even the oldest Japanese songs like Subaru, Kokoni Sachiari, Kimito Itsumademo, Ihoujin and many more.

The way they are enjoying the night, I thought that I will get big tips but not a single cent.

MUSIC AT PRR

For more than a week, Mr. Wang Kang, right, and his family enjoyed the ambiance at Waves Restaurant of Palau Royal Resort because of my piano music instrumental of international songs. I also let his son play the piano for a couple of songs.

He also invited me to visit China and will host me if I go there. He took some photos with his wife and son and later all of us. He said he will post it on my email address robert_flor31154@yahoo.com

NUMEROUS PHOTOS WITH PALAU PRESIDENT TOMMY REMENGESAU, JR.
     I have featured current and former Palau President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. a lot of times in this site and this is the latest one. At the background is Mervin Lee Cuyugan, the F & B Manager of Palau Royal Resort, whose knowledge about international songs and singers is second to none. We are at the piano but our conversation in about cheating in chess.

       ABOUT CHEATING IN CHESS
                 AT THE PIANO

           During the Appreciation Dinner for Justice Alejandro C. Castro and Mrs. Carmen Moses Castro at the wooden area of Waves Restaurant of Palau Royal Resort, I first met Andy Uherbelau, the brother of Victorio Uherbelau.           Palau PresidentTommy Remengesau Jr. came and when he is making a speech, I stop playing piano and read Island Times newspaper where he is at the front page while he is swearing-in Justice Alejandro C. Castro. He goes to the rest room and before going back to his table, he stands near me at the piano. His first word is "You're the blitz chess champion?"

          My response is about the currently finished Surangel Blitz competition during the 3rd day of Arbiters' Seminar. I mistakenly said 3rd place, but I finished 4th in that tourney. I'm co-champion in the 2017 Palau Blitz Chess Championship.

          When our conversation was diverted into cheating in chess, I mentioned to him that during the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan, cell phones and even ball pens are not allowed in the playing area. He is amazed about the sophisticated method now in cheating.

           I mentioned also to him about the Georgian GM who was caught cheating in the Dubai Open, using his cell phone hidden in the rest room. He was stripped of his GM title (now an International Master (IM) and suspended for 18 months. This is the link--http://palau-chess.blogspot.com/…/georgian-gm-expelled-from… 

           I also told him that Jamie Kenmure, the Australian International Arbiter/Organizer that held the Arbiters' Seminar here in Palau, is a member of FIDE Anti-Cheating Commission in Baku. Jamie wants the suspension to be 15 years and lifetime ban for 2nd offense.

          I was not able to ask somebody to take a photo of us at the piano, but when I'm playing "Looking Through the Eyes of Love", he stand again near me and I asked Jovy Rodriguez to take photos of us and here's the result.  Palau President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. and I are both 61 years old. I was born in Jan. 02, 1956 while he was born in Feb., 1956.

During her birthday celebration a day later (Oct. 15, 2016), we used one of the gift certificates that Palau Royal Resort's General Manager (GM) Masayuki Kawaguchi has given me for promoting PRR in the 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan. Because there is no buffet on that date, we settled for fixed menu, which is not enough for our appetite.

The 3 gift certificates that was given to me by PRR GM were to my discretion on how to use it. A controversy occurs when Paquito Suringa, Jr., my teammate in 2016 World Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan didn't bring half of the PRR's brochure for promoting the hotel to 181-member countries of FIDE (World Chess Federation)...

I was able to use the first one as gift to my wife. But because there is no buffet on that Monday night (we are off on Mondays), we settled for fixed menu....

I was not able to order a piece of cake with birthday candle and I will play the Happy Birthday song myself at the piano to surprise my wife because we became busy with free wi-fi after dinner.

(1351) MUSIC AND ME (Jan. 19, 2017) 10th INAUGURATION BALL AT PALAU ROYAL RESORT

10th INAUGURATION BALL AT PALAU ROYAL RESORT... 516 people attended the 10th Inauguration Ball of newly elected leaders of Palau at Palau Royal Resort. GM Kawaguchi told me I don't need to play piano as there are live band and dancers. I just help in assisting guests and taking these photos with President Tommy Remengesau Jr., her daughter Mayumi Remengesau, Maricel Sapida Veluz, Danny, Delegate Mario Gulibert, Sen. Allan Seid, Sophia Seid, and others.
