(1454) ANGELIL SISIOR IS THE 2017 PNCC JUNIOR CHAMPION (TBN-Dec. 04, 2017)

: TWICE PALAU JUNIOR CHAMPION

Angelil Sisior, 3rd from right, clinched her 2nd Palau Junior Championship plum as early as the 5th round when she defeated Reece Reklai, 2nd from right. Her sister and Junior Division top seed Destiny, 2nd from left, is also a former junior champion. Their mother, Palau’s first Woman National Master Angie Parrado Sisior and perennial women’s champion, middle (partly hidden), fully supports her 3 chess playing daughters to make it a ‘monopoly’ of Sisior family, the women and junior divisions.                     (Photo by Roberto Hernandez)

     ANGELIL SISIOR IS THE 2017
        PNCC JUNIOR CHAMPION

Palau Mission Academy Chess in School standout Reece Reklai is the only player in the junior division of 2017 Palau National Chess Championship that can catch up with unbeaten leader Angelil Sisior. But when he didn’t show up in the penultimate round against Rommel Gulla, Angelil clinched the title with a round to spare.

Other results of the 8th round (Junior Division): Michael Gulla claimed his 3rd victory by outlasting Aome Angeles; Top seed Destiny Sisior clobbered my piano/chess student and Gian Gabriel Claronino nipped Gian Paloma for his 3rd win as well and 5 setbacks.

In the Top 12 Division, leader Bobot Tan assured himself a slot in the Palau Team composition to the 2018 World Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia by crushing my Bird’s Opening and I resigned after 47 moves; Top seed Cyril Tomas Montel, Jr. snapped the 4-game winning streak of Paquito ‘Pax’ Suringa, Jr. in 51 moves; Rustum Cabuso is back in the winning column by beating Dennis Gonzales; Angelo Salvadora inched closer for another spot in Batumi, Georgia by outsmarting Gonzalo ‘Jojo’ Escapatoria, Jr. and 3rd seed Jeff Balbalosa and Manuel Mahor, Jr. didn’t play their scheduled game and just practice blitz game. They reset their game in other weekday’s special game in either at their staff house. They are not in the mood to play as they have only 1.5 points/2points respectively.

In the Women’s Division, Angelica Magno scored a stunning upset by whipping Joan Gemota while the last game of the day is between Baby Edna “Bheng” Mission and Joan in which Bheng recovered from a piece disadvantage and won. I left them the clock, chess set and score sheets so that I can teach my guitar student Brandon Kyle Soriano at 5:45-6:45pm, then have dinner at Palau Royal Resort cafeteria and proceed to Pentecostal Missionary Church of Christ (4th Watch) Palau Locale for the  Evangelistic Night.

Two special games were set at PRR Dormitory 1 on Thu. Nov. 30, between Pax and Jojo and Dennis vs. Angelo at 8pm. The first game (Pax vs. Jojo) started at 6:30 pm in which Pax prevailed to start another winning streak. Dennis suffered another setback where he should have won the game with the right sequence of moves from the 14th but lost instead in an endgame of pawns and minor piece.
