THE 2017 QUALIFYING STARTED SEPT. 03 

11 chess players participated in the qualifying tourney to complete the Top 12 Division. 3 women took part to improve their game ala Judith Polgar. They are Angie SisiorBheng Codinera Mendoza and Jennifer Tubtub Angeles.





 The others are Bobot TanManuel MahorGonzalo EscapatoriaAngel Salvador, Leif Toribiong, Dennis R Gonzales, Wilson Barrameda and Neph Macasaet. 

1st rd. Results: Angel nips Bheng; Dennis mated Leif with a pawn; Angie mated Wilson in 17 moves; Jojo outsmarted Jennifer and the longest game-- Jun Mahor upsets top seed Bobot in a marathon 85 moves that lasted till past 6 pm! Neph had a bye.



 Rd. 2 pairings (first name to play white): 1. Angel vs. Angie 2. Jun vs. Dennis; 3. Jojo vs. Neph; 4. Leif vs. Bobot; 5. Jennifer vs. Bheng and Wilson BYE. SEE YOU AGAIN ON SEPT. 10.











2017 Palau Rapid Chess Champion Bobot Tan, squatting on the table, lost a tough 85-move game against Manuel 'Jun' Mahor, Jr., 2nd from right in the first round of the 2017 PNCC Qualifying tourney to select the composition of Top 12 Division of PNCC. 6th seed Rustum Cabuso visits the venue in the late afternoon while I asked Bobot's wife to have a photo near him with their baby boy.
