: AZERBAIJAN’S TOP CHESS PLAYERS
Teimour Radjabov, right, is Azerbaijan’s
Board 1 player in the 2012 WCO in Istanbul, Turkey. He is currently No. 2 of
his country with Shakhiyar Mamedyarov at No. 1 and Eltaj Safarli at 3rd.
Surprising is former Germany’s No. 1 Arkadij Naiditsch, who changed federation
and is now Azerbaijan’s No. 4. Radjabov is up against former world champion
Vladimir Kramnik, left, in Russia vs. Azerbaijan match on Sept. 04, 2012.

SCHEDULE OF 42nd CHESS
OLYMPIAD IN BAKU, AZERBAIJAN
THE 181-country members of FIDE (World Chess Federation)
are all invited to participate in the 42nd World Chess Olympiad to
be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from Sept. 01-14, 2016. A Presidential Decree was
created to have all participants get their visas at Baku Airport upon arrival.
This is a very much welcomed effort by the organizers to lessen the burdens of
participants like what happened in the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway
where the Team Palau (Open and Women) need to come to Manila 2 weeks earlier
than the Olympiad schedule to get their Schengen visas at Royal Norwegian
Embassy.
During
each round of the Olympiad, the Team Captains will be given green cards for the
players who will play in the current round, which should be returned to the
Match Arbiters after the game. The players are asked to carry their green card
player cards with their accreditation badges. Players who don’t participate in
the round are asked to enter the venue from the visitors’ entrance if they wish
to follow the games.
Roberto
Hernandez will be Palau’s Delegate in this Olympiad in the absence of its
Delegate Eric Ksau Surangel Whipps. The 87th FIDE Congress will be
held in the Fairmont Hotel in Baku. All Congress participants (Delegates,
Commission Chairpersons, Secretaries and members) must register through the
Olympiad’s official registration system. The Congress participants, except the
FIDE Presidential Board and officials by FIDE should pay the registration fee
of 100 Eur to BCOOC. The Congress participants will be able to obtain their
accreditations in the Accreditation Center located in the Fairmont Hotel.
Except
if they demand to the organizers to be accommodated in a different hotel, the
Congress
Participants will be accommodated in the Fairmont Hotel.
The accommodation in the same hotel as the national team is possible, but the
transport to and from the Congress venue won’t be provided by the Organizers.
Congress delegates will nevertheless have the possibility of using Baku cabs at
a unique advantageous fee.
The
Organizers offer the Congress delegates free accommodation in single rooms,
with a full board. The other Congress participants should pay for their
accommodation by themselves according to the rates indicated in the section
“Accommodation”.
