AFTER subduing one of Palauan bets Morton Sawaichi in the
1st round of 2006 Palau National Chess Championship, 3rd
seed Cyril Montel, Jr. surges in the standings after clobbering 6th
seed Manny Nedic in 41 moves of Ruy Lopez (Norwegian and Delayed Schiliemann
Variations) to stay undefeated in the 3rd round of play on Sunday,
April 02, 2006 at Jean’s Boutique and Store. Cyril didn’t play in the 2nd
week in which only 3 games were played.

Eti previously defeated Nedic and 2nd
seed Jose Omega, who drubbed venue host and 8th seed Gene Pastrana
in the first game of the day. Earlier on Saturday, April 01, 5th
seed Jimmy Valenzuela and
Omega
played their game and resulted in Omega having a 1-1 day as Jimmy beat him in an
unspecified number of moves and what defence they’ve used because they didn’t
give to Roberto the score sheet.
After the completion of 3 games
of the 3rd round, a blitz chess contest was held between idle top
seed Menandro Manuel, Roberto, Edwin, Cyril and Gene. The double round-robin
competition was won by Roberto after finishing half point ahead of Menandro and
Edwin.
