SEE YOU ON MARCH 16, 2013
Mr. Uehara, his wife Satoko and their daughter found a second home at Palau Royal Resort. They've visited Palau 4 times last year and will have their 2nd visit for the year 2013 on March 16, 2013. WE WELCOME AGAIN THE UEHARA FAMILY TO THEIR SECOND HOME --- PALAU!!! (Photo by Roberto Hernandez)
IMI WAKARANAI
I’VE MET thousands of Japanese guests at Palau Royal Resort, Teppan Dragon Japanese Restaurant, Rose Garden Resort and Image Restaurant since 1992.
They often asked me, “You can sing very well a lot of Japanese songs but do you know the meaning of what you are singing?”
When I respond “Imi wakaranai”, they will all laugh. The meaning of “imi wakaranai”is “I don’t know the meaning.” They will laugh more when I say, “I can sing also Palauan songs – imi wakaranai! I can sing Greek, Italian, Spanish, Taiwanese and Chamorro songs – imi wakaranai!”
It’s strange that I can sing or play some songs from different countries with expression even without knowing the meaning of the lyrics of those songs.
What’s important to me is to learn or know the melody of those songs. At least I have to listen to those songs 10 times or more.
I can play “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” with expression since 1980’s. On Dec. 05, 2012, I’m playing the Japanese song “Anata” with expression at Waves Restaurant of Palau Royal Resort. Then a lone, American submarine engineer passes by to go to the rest room. He ‘felt’ my expressive playing and he gave me $10.00 tip before going to rest room.
Some music experts say that it takes about 8 years of playing musical instrument before anybody can play with expression. I can say that for every rule, there is an exemption. Jasmine Yano, at 8 years old, can play with expression!
