(338) 2012 PNCC STANDINGS AFTER 3RD WEEK

ERIC KSAU WHIPPS AND GEOFF MARTIN SUPPORT CHESS
Eric Ksau Whipps, right, practices chess with Geoff Martin while waiting for their kids/protegees playing their official games. Eric pays the registration fee of his son Ksau Anthony Whipps while Geoff pays the fee of Zachary Techall Whipps and his membership fee to Palau Chess Federation. It's sad that Geoff can't join the tournament's Class B because of shortness of rated players.

2 special games were played between Roberto Hernandez and Paquito 'Pax' Suringa, Jr. at Palau Royal Resort Dormitory 1 at 8:20 am on Oct. 31.

The game 1 was played with Paquito having the white pieces and opened with 1. e4 and Roberto responded with 1. ... c5 (a Sicilian Defence).

But Pax deviated right away on the 2nd move with 2. b3 and struggled with the slow development of his pieces.

On the 10th move, Roberto forked Pax's 2 rooks with a knight. After that capture on the 12th, Roberto just hang on with the advantage that ballooned to a whole rook and 3 pawns.
Pax resigned on the 41st move.

He requested to play their 2nd game using the time control of 1 hour each so that he can still work at 12:00 noon at PRR Cafeteria.

Another Sicilian Defence game with Pax deviating again on the 3rd move this time. In the middle game, his queen is out of action while Roberto opened up the h file for a strong attack.

Pax's king travelled from g8 to c7 and time for Roberto to exchange queens and wins more material and the same endgame like the first game -- a whole rook and 3 pawns advantage. Pax resigned also on the 41st move.
